Become an AVID Tutor!

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is hiring AVID tutors for various schools throughout Fairfax County for the 2022-2023 school year.
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) tutors work with small groups of approximately 5-7 middle school or high school students during the school day in an academic elective class called AVID. These
groups use higher order questioning strategies to help students develop
a variety of college preparatory skills such as critical thinking and
problem solving. Tutors earn $18.42 per hour and must be currently
enrolled in college or be college graduates. If interested, please email

Health Room Parent Volunteer Opportunity

The Health Room is currently looking for additional parent volunteers. Volunteers come in for 2 hour shifts and assist with filing, calling parents and helping to check students in and out of the clinic. This important role allows our School Health Assistants to take a break for lunch while allowing the Health Room to continue to meet the needs of our students. If you are interested in volunteering, or would like to learn more, please contact Stephani Keen, Public Health Nurse, at skeen@fcps.edu. Thank you for your support!

Important Reminders

digital

We Need Your Consent for Digital Resources

At Lake Braddock, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your student’s teachers if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources they have chosen to use this year.

SRR

Sign and Return the Student Rights & Responsibilities Booklet

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/caregiver with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/caregiver’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30.Visit the SIS Parentvue Account Overview page for help logging in to your account.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener, Nov 2 or Nov 4

This year, all FCPS schools are administering an SEL Screener throughout the year. At Lake Braddock, students will complete this 18 question screener on November 2 or November 4, 2022 during Advisory.  Please click here to view this information, as well as translated versions, on our school website.

If you do not want your student to take part in the SEL screener, please complete the opt-out process by Friday, October 28. You may complete the opt-out process through the “Student Information” page on SIS ParentVue. At the top of the page, click “Edit Information”. Then, the SEL Screener Participation is the second option. Or, you may complete the opt-out process by printing and filling out the form from the main SEL information page (translations are available here). Paper forms should be returned to the Main Office. Please contact your student's school counselor or subschool assistant principal with questions.

Attendance Awareness Month: When Should My Child Stay Home?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit our site for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and your school.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify your student's subschool (see LB Attendance contacts here) so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school public health nurse, and call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long. Attend today, Achieve Tomorrow!
