Dear Poplar Tree Families,
The Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors work together to administer the Fairfax County Youth Survey. The county has posted the results for the 2021 survey.
The survey is given to all students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 each fall. It provides a wealth of information about a variety of topics related to our youth that influence their physical and mental well being, from sleep and nutritional habits to substance abuse behaviors to symptoms of depression and suicidal thoughts.
The results provide a snapshot of our youth in Fairfax County but also serve as a barometer of our own effectiveness as a community in fostering healthy choices in our young people. Data from the Fairfax County Youth Survey is used as a measurement tool in the FCPS Strategic Plan Goal 2 - Caring Culture - Healthy Life Choices.

From September 15 to October 15, FCPS recognizes and celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of the members of our community whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
SCA Little Free Library
We are so happy to see how much love and use the Little Free Library is receiving at the start of this new school year! As a reminder, please feel free to add any unwanted books you might have around your house. We hope to continue to be able to keep it stocked for the community to enjoy! Thank you for your support of the Little Free Library and the SCA of Poplar Tree!

Before & After School Programs
The Poplar Tree PTA serves as a sponsor for before/after school programs at PTES! These programs are facilitated by parent volunteers and vendors. You must be a PTA member to participate in the programs. This year we are proud to be offering:
🏃🏼♂️👟Running Club
- We are continuing the before-school Running/Walking Club for all students grades 1-6. If a Kindergartener wants to join, please have a parent come and run or walk too. Best of all, it’s FREE! We meet from 7:45 to 8:20 AM Thursday mornings starting September 29th - December 2nd.

- Club members will participate in practice tests and worksheets and will come to the school for contests like Math Olympiad, Noetic, Math Kangaroo and Math Counts etc. For Grades 3-6. Meets on Tuesdays between 6-8PM beginning in October.

♟️ Chess Club
- The PTES Chess Club meets Fridays, 3:30 – 5:00 pm from September 23 – January 20. Everyone in grades 2 - 6 interested in learning and playing chess is welcome, beginners and advanced players! Players are grouped by ability, not age. We teach the rules to beginners and strategy to experienced players.

🔬Science Olympiad for Grades 3rd - 5th

“Science Olympiad or “SO” is an international non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. We need an assistant coach and parent volunteers to help with this program at PTES!
