Dear Bailey's Families,
Our students are doing a wonderful job of settling in to school! They have worked with their teachers to share their hopes and dreams for the school year as they continue to practice classroom and schoolwide procedures. Because their days are filled with so many amazing learning experiences, here are a few questions you might ask your child to help them share their day with you:
- What makes you happy at school?
- What do you like best about ____ (insert subject)?
- What did you do to help someone today?/What did someone do to help you today?
-
What was something that made you laugh?
As always, that you for your support of our school. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Back to School Night
Please remember to join us for Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. This event will take place in person and is for parents/guardians only. There will be no child care provided at this event. If you have more than one student at Bailey’s, we are offering two sessions for parents and guardians to attend.
- Session 1: 6:00 – 6:40 p.m.
- Session 2: 6:50 – 7:30 p.m.
Sessions will begin promptly at the designated times. Travel time between sessions has been built into the schedule. We look forward to seeing you on the 21st!
BELL SCHEDULE 22-23 Grades K-2nd
Arrival - Doors open at 8:50 am for students to enter
All students must be in the classroom at 9am. Student arriving after 9am must be accompanied by an adult to check in at Door #1
Dismissal - Dismissal starts at 3:40 pm
There is no parent parking in the school’s parking lot during arrival 8:30-9am and dismissal 3-3:50pm. We encourage you to walk, use K&R or have your child ride the school bus if available. For safety reasons, parking and walking students in or picking up at the school’s parking lots is strongly discourage. The congestion this causes presents a safety hazard for students, staff, and vehicles.
Kiss and Ride
For parents who will be driving their children to school, staff members will greet students in the “Kiss and Ride” line starting at 8:50 a.m. and ending at 9:00 a.m. Please have your child sitting on the right hand passenger side and ALWAYS exit on the right. Please practice this routine with your child. After 9:00 a.m., parents must park and walk students inside to the office for a late pass. Kiss and Ride pick up is from 3:35 p.m. to 3:55 p.m. Any adult picking up a student at 3:55 p.m. or after will need to park and enter Door 1 (main entrance) to pick up their student. They will also need to be listed on the emergency care card and have a valid ID.
Parents need to stay in their cars during arrival and dismissal. There will be plenty of adults available to help children get in and out of cars.

Helpful Information from our Mental Health Team
Mornings can be rushed and lead to a time of big emotions for both students and caregivers. As part of a nightly routine, have your child help pick out what they want to wear to school the next day and have their backpack ready for them to pick up on the way out the door in the morning. If your child likes to see things visually, having an evening and morning routine schedule may be helpful for them to be able to learn/remember what needs to happen before going to bed and before going to school in the morning. Helping your child learn strategies to develop their own routines not only helps with time management and executive functioning skills but also helps your child to have some control over the routines in what order they choose to prepare themselves for sleep (brushing teeth first or putting on pajamas) and getting ready for the school day (brushing hair or putting on clothing first).

Title I Meeting
The Title I Office will host a virtual What is Title I? Town Hall for all Title I schools so parents and guardians can learn more about Title I and how Title I funding is used to support schools. The Town Hall will be held virtually on Tuesday, September 20th from 7:00-8:15 p.m. Use this link to join the meeting: https://myfcpsk12.zoom.us/s/92517569120
COVID Diagnostic Testing
COVID-19 diagnostic testing is available at no cost for all currently enrolled FCPS students on select dates throughout the year when transmission may be highest. Diagnostic testing is provided at designated times and locations for those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
Testing will be available September 6-8 and 12-14. Visit the testing website for information on locations and how to register for an appointment.
Safety Drills During the School Year
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.
The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill.
Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Here are some helpful tips for families to use to support their students before and after school lockdown drills. Working together, we create a safe, secure environment for students to learn and grow in our schools.
Gun Safety and Safe Gun Storage
Providing students and staff with a safe educational environment remains our top priority. Sadly, gun violence continues to impact schools and communities across our nation.
As you may be aware, lessons on gun safety are already built into our curriculum; however, it is critical that all parents and guardians talk to their children about the importance of gun safety and safe gun storage in your homes, and any homes that your children may visit.
The FCPS website has resources for parents about gun safety as well as detailed information about FCPS safety and security practices in our buildings.
Anonymous Tip Line Puts Safety First
If you or your child have concerns or information relating to feeling unsafe in any way at school, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security has a safety tip line that you can access anonymously online, by text (888-777; Keyword TIP FCPS), or by phone (571-423-2020).
If your tip is an emergency and immediate assistance is necessary, please dial 911.
Students, staff, and community members should report school safety issues such as threats, unsafe or dangerous situations, illegal drug activity, theft, gang activity, the existence of weapons, vandalism, and concerns about student wellness. Tip line users may identify themselves or remain anonymous. Concerns that do not impact the safety of our schools—concerns or information about programs, regulations, or policies—can be sent to the FCPS ombudsman online, at 571-423-4014, or ombudsman@fcps.edu.
Student Rights and Responsibilities
We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year!
FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.
Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.
Please contact us if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.
Paperless Opt-Outs Available!
As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE. Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there. Parents that do not yet have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification. If you need to set up your ParentVUE account, you can create one online via the FCPS ParentVUE Registration page.
Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms will be included in your child’s back-to-school/orientation packets and are available online for Elementary (K-6), Middle School (7-8), and High School (9-12). Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school prior to Family Life Education instruction.
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6) , Middle School (7-8) , and High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology. Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media). Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.
Program questions may be addressed at Bailey's by contacting, Jillian Bell, Assistant Principal, jmbell@fcps.edu or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu
