Dear Shrevewood Families,

We are looking forward to seeing everyone next Tuesday, September 13th at Back to School Night. Our evening will begin at 6:00 pm and end at 7:30 pm. We are going to offer 2 sessions to better accommodate families with multiple children. Here is the timing for the evening:

  • 6:00 pm - 6:40 pm: Session 1
  • 6:40 pm - 6:50 pm: Transition Time
  • 6:50 pm - 7:30 pm: Session 2

Our Specialists will be located in the cafeteria and will be available to discuss their classrooms and curriculum during both sessions.

Have a wonderful weekend and we hope to see you at the Back to School picnic this evening!

Picture Day - September 15

Click on the image below to begin your Picture Day preorder. Type in our Picture Day ID: EVTHP6S26 once you visit the website.

If your child is absent from school on September 15, we will have makeups later this fall.

Positivity Project

This past week, our school community focused in our Positivity Project morning meetings on Teamwork. You like exploration and discovery. You work well as a member of a group or team. You are loyal and sacrifice your individual desires for the greater good.

“Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.”

                    ~Helen Keller

Questions you might enjoy talking about with your child:

  • Think about a time you were part of a successful team? How did that feel?
  • Have you ever been a part of an unsuccessful team? How did THAT feel?
  • What actions can you take to be a positive team member?

  • FCPS’ disclosure of student information for graduation photographs or other commercial purposes and the right of parents and eligible students to opt out of this disclosure.
  • FCPS’ disclosure of secondary school students’ names, addresses, and telephone numbers to military recruiters and the right of parents and students to opt out of this disclosure.

Cub Scout Join Scouting Night

Looking for an adventure? Cub Scout Pack 1537 is open to boys and girls in grades K-5. Learn more at Join Scouting Night on Wednesday, September 14th at 7pm in the Shrevewood Elementary cafeteria. Sample activities, learn more about our program, and join our pack! Pack 1537 is open to students at neighboring schools and homeschoolers as well. Meetings take place Wednesday evenings at Shrevewood throughout the school year.  Questions? Email scouting@pack1537.org and visit https://pack1537.org to learn more and sign up.

SR&R Reminder

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Once you log on, you will see the following message:

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.

Please email our Assistant Principal, Katie Vandawalker at kmvandawalke@fcps.edu if you have any questions.

Kiss & Ride Registration and Procedures

In order to streamline our Kiss and Ride process, you must register your child(ren) so that you are assigned a kiss and ride number.

Once you register, you will receive a laminated number to display in the front window of your car and your child(ren) will receive a number for their backpacks. We will use the numbers at dismissal in order for students to be dismissed when their ride arrives. Each family only needs to fill out the registration one time.

Thank you so much for your help in ensuring a safe, smooth, and speedy dismissal for all Shrevewood students!

Below are our general guidelines for entering Kiss & Ride safely and respectfully:

  1. Students need to be able to enter and exit the vehicle from the passenger side (right) of the vehicle.  It is not safe to have children walk around to the driver side.
  2. Parents/Guardians are requested to remain in the vehicle as school staff will open doors.
  3. Students cannot load or unload outside of the Kiss & Ride lane that is marked with orange cones.
  4. Please be patient in the first few weeks, as logistics with student numbers may lend to longer wait times.

Breakfast & Lunch Reminders

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast and lunch are NO longer provided at no cost.  Breakfast will be $1.75.  Lunch will be $3.25, milk $0.60. Breakfast and lunch will be served beginning the first day of school.  Money can be added to your child(ren)’s accounts using www.myschoolbucks.com.  You can find the menu for breakfast and lunch at https://fcps.nutrislice.com/menu/shrevewood-elementary.

Free and Reduced-Price Status

Students eligible for free or reduced-price meals will continue to receive these benefits through the end of September.  A new application must be filled out each new school year and forms are available online now: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/food-and-nutrition-programs/free-and-reduced-price-meals.  Applications are accepted at any time, but we encourage you to apply or renew your application before the end of September. Call (703) 813-4800 if you need help. This must be completed for eligible students to receive free meals.

As a reminder, school begins at 9:20 am and ends at 4:05 pm. Please notify us if your child will be absent or late to school.  We will have an automated “call-out” at approximately 11 a.m. for students who were absent without prior notification. If you receive that call, please contact our office the next day.

Here is how you may report your child being absent or late to school:

Room Parent Sign Up

The 2022 - 2023 school year is here! Do you want to get involved in the Shrevewood Community and help classroom teachers at the same time? Sign up to be a Room Parent!

What is a Room Parent? A Room Parent can be any adult caregiver or family member interested in helping a specific class.

Each classroom will have one or more parent/adult volunteer(s) that will help make life easier (and sometimes more fun!) for the classroom teachers.  Some possible examples: getting the word out about PTA events, helping teachers find volunteers when needed, celebrating birthdays/Teacher Appreciation Week and more!

You can use this link to sign up: https://forms.gle/5wqr2wfVM5mvyt9e8.  If you have any questions, reach out to Emily Gillotte, the Room Parent Coordinator, at ShrevewoodRoomParents@gmail.com.

PTA Staff Potluck

Help us provide some yummy food for our hardworking staff before Back to School night! Sign up to bring food so that teachers can eat and prepare for the evening. Please read the directions carefully: bring labeled food to school between 4:30 and 4:45 on September 13 and deliver it to the conference room. Thanks for your support in showing our appreciation for our staff!

Digital Resources Parent Permission

Fairfax County Public Schools provides access to digital resources to maximize learning opportunities and protect student privacy. Each FCPS digital resource has had an instructional and technical review. Information about the educational technology tools approved for use within FCPS can be found in the online Digital Ecosystem Library

In order for students use certain applications at school, parents need to sign the Digital Consent form. After reviewing the resources, please complete this form to indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this school year.

Paperless Opt-Outs Available!

As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE.  Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-outs listed there.  Parents that do not have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification. If you need to set up your ParentVUE account, you can create one online via the FCPS ParentVUE Registration page.
