COT

Change in Transportation?

If you would like to report a change in your child's method of transportation for the day please use our online "Change in Transportation" form. The Change of Transportation Form  can be located on the Forestville school website. It will allow for quick and easy notification to students and staff. Changes must be submitted by 12:00 PM daily in order to allow adequate time for our office staff to distribute the forms to teachers and students before dismissal each day. More information about changes in transportation along with information about Forestville's arrival and dismissal procedures can be found in our family handbook

Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA)

State assessments measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills reflected in state standards and may also be used to measure growth in learning state standards. Forestville's 3rd - 6th graded students will take the Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) standardized tests in reading and mathematics on the following dates:

Grade-Level:  Reading VGA: Math VGA:
3rd  September 22nd September 29th
4th September 22nd September 29th
5th September 21st September 28th

The Grade Level Tests webpage provides information by grade level about the general assessment schedule and reporting method for each required assessment type in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).  Please contact your child’s teacher or our school test coordinator, Afton Carlson, if you have questions.

Social Emotional Screener

The School Board has approved a screener to review students’ skills and experiences in these areas. FCPS staff will use the screener to identify strengths and needs for students in grades K-12.

All students in grades K-12 will participate in the screener twice a year, in the fall and spring. For students in grades K-2, teachers will complete a survey on their observations of students' skills and experiences. Students in grades 3-12 will reflect and report on their own skills and experiences. S

Parents have the right to opt their children out of taking this screener. For more information regarding this screener and access to the Opt-out form, click here. If you have already filled out the Opt-out form, that came home in the first Tuesday folder on 8/23/2022 you do not need to follow out another form.

SR&R

Student Rights & Responsibilities

We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year!

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

New Cell Phone Policy in SR&R:

An important update made to the Student Rights & Responsibilities document (SR&R) for the coming school year is the regulation to prohibit cell phone use in classrooms. Students will not be permitted to use their cell phones during class unless permitted by the teacher for instructional purposes. We acknowledge this new policy may be a shift for some students and families this year, but research shows that managing phone use during class time will support students’ attention and ability to fully engage in their learning. Schools are partnering with parents to have students understand the importance of putting their phones away to minimize distractions during class. Please talk to your child(ren) arouund appropariate cell phone usage at school. Families may also review the parental controls available for all iPhone and Android users.
