Principal's Message - 9/6/22

Hello Stone MS Community,

We hope that you were able to get some time to rest and relax this holiday weekend.

Today started our first after school session for academic support; which means teachers will be available after school on Tuesdays to offer support to students. We ask that students sign up via Schoology to stay after school. Late buses will not be available this first week of academic support however, they will start on September 27th.

Last week, all students were given a Stone reusable water bottle and academic school planner for the year via their Panther block classes. We highly suggest that students put their name on their water bottle and agendas.

Please remind your students to be a Stone PRO. That means that your student should come to school everyday PREPARED showing RESPECT for themselves and others and ON TIME. We look forward to another week of learning and growing at Stone.

Volunteer Opportunity

Our Library could use some parent volunteers this school year.  Our prime times are during lunches and  right before school starts. Please use sign up genius to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904094FABA722A64-stone1

Challenged Materials Review Committees

Stone Middle School is  seeking two individuals who are available to serve on a Fairfax County Public Schools Challenged Materials Review Committee.  Parents must not be employed by FCPS in order to volunteer. The list of Stone committee members will be maintained at the FCPS central office.  Throughout the year, names are randomly chosen to serve if a central departmental committee is required to review a challenged material. If you are interested in serving in this role, please send an email to Mrs. Williams at snwilliams1@fcps.edu

Safety Drills

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Your child may come home and talk about their experience during these drills. Stone Middle had their first fire drill of the school year last week. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Stone will host a lockdown drill the week of September 12, 2022. Here are some helpful tips for families to use to support their students before and after school lockdown drills.

Working together, we create a safe, secure environment for students to learn and grow in our schools.
