Message from Ms. Kearns

Dear Lake Braddock Families,

We were excited to welcome our Middle School families to our Back to School Night.  We hope you enjoyed meeting your student’s teachers and getting to know Lake Braddock a little more.  Looking towards next week, we look forward to welcoming our High School families.

This Sunday is the anniversary of September 11.  We recognize that this anniversary may be difficult for some of our families, and we support any in our community who still mourn the loss of loved ones on that tragic day. We also acknowledge the sacrifice of our first responders and those who serve to protect our nation.

We wish our Lake Braddock community a peaceful weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back again Monday.

Go Bruins!

SRR

Sign and Return the Student Rights & Responsibilities Booklet

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/caregiver with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/caregiver’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30.Visit the SIS Parentvue Account Overview page for help logging in to your account.

Registration is Open for the World Languages Credit Exam

The World Language Credit Exam assesses reading and writing language proficiency in languages other than English. Students who take the exam may earn up to three World Languages credits for levels one, two, and three for the language of the exam. The credits may fulfill the World Languages requirements for the Advanced Studies Diploma. The FCPS World Languages Credit Exam is also an approved assessment for awarding the Virginia Department of Education’s Seal of Biliteracy. The exam is offered one time per school year. A student may participate in the exam two times per language, once per year, between grades 7 through 12. In other words, students have two chances per language to earn credits by taking the exam. CLICK HERE for more information.

LB MS Chamber Orchestra Selected to Play at 2022 NAfME National Conference

It is with great pleasure to announce that the Lake Braddock Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Clayton Allen has been selected to perform during the 2022 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) National Conference. This is one of many exciting outside performances that are planned for this year!  Ensembles are chosen based on unmarked recordings submitted. Each year, NAfME has a Nationwide conference. They select elementary, middle, high school, and university groups to perform at this national event. The Lake Braddock Chamber Orchestra will be performing at The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD on November 4th at 4:00 pm on the Outside Main Stage. This is a great honor for the Lake Braddock Orchestra Program and will bring great credibility to our school and community at large.  National Association for Music Education (NAfME), among the world’s largest arts education organizations, is the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. Congratulations to the Lake Braddock Middle School Chamber Orchestra for your selection to this prestigious national music conference.

DCR

We Need Your Consent for Digital Resources

At Lake Braddock, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your student’s teachers if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources they have chosen to use this year.

attendance

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Some of the ways parents can help their children create healthy routines and a habit of getting to school on time every day include:

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
  • When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Visit our website for more attendance resources

  • Prior to 8:00 a.m., the student must present a note from the parent to their subschool office. Notes must include time of dismissal, reason for leaving, and a contact number. Parents of middle school students must also include the name of the person picking the student up. Please note that this person must be listed as an emergency contact. At the time of early check-out, middle school parents must come in Entrance 1 and meet their student at the security desk. Anyone picking up a middle school student must bring a photo ID with them. High school parents may pick up students outside Entrance 1.
  • Notes are strongly preferred for early check-out, but if a parent is unable to send a note with the student, the parent should call the subschool office as early as possible. All calls will be confirmed by callback to a phone number on the emergency care card.
