Virtual Parent Coffee

Shifts in Reading Instruction and Assessment

Join us for a Virtual Parent Coffee where our Reading Specialist will share the shifts in Reading instruction in FCPS.  She will also share updates regarding the new assessments that will be used in alignment with the shifts.  Many of you are familiar with the DRA2 levels, that assessment has been replaced with a variety of assessment tools to measure literacy performance.  A Zoom link will be sent out the day before, we will record the session for anyone who is not able to attend.

Outdoor Lunch Option

Outdoor Lunch Picture

For those of you new to Stenwood, in coordination with the PTA we offer outdoor lunch for any students who would like to eat outside.  There are stools and benches for students to use, or they may choose to eat on the sidewalk.  Please communicate with your child what your preference is.

There are some procedures/rules to outside lunch that any students choosing to eat outside must follow:

Students will be exiting the cafeteria through the side cafeteria door and placed in a sectioned off area outside designated for their grade level.  The parent volunteers and one staff member will be outside to ensure they stay in the sectioned off area.  Students will need to remain outside for the duration of the lunch block and will need to remain seated. At the end of lunch students will be lined up by grade level and return inside to the cafeteria to be picked up by their homeroom teacher.  If for some reason a child drops or spill their lunch during the transition outside, they will be able to return to the lunch line to retrieve a new meal.  Please make sure you talk to your child about the expectations of this eating option.  Should your child be unable to follow these expectations,  they will need to return to the cafeteria.  We do have a Stop sign that we hang up to indicate that outdoor lunch is not available.  This happens when weather does not allow or we do not have sufficient parent volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer for outdoor lunch please respond here, Outdoor Lunch Volunteer Survey

Parent Volunteer Survey

If you are interested in volunteering throughout the year, please complete this survey.  It includes opportunities for class parent as well as in the library, clinic, and with the PTA.

SR&R Acknowledgement

While use of ParentVUE to digitally sign the SR&R acknowledgement is preferred, parents/guardians may elect to download and print the SR&R Parent/Guardian Signature Sheet   from the FCPS public website.  If a parent/guardian needs assistance accessing the signature sheet, they may contact their child’s school and ask that the school provide the form.  The SR&R Parent/Guardian Signature Sheet is due September 30th, 2022.

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • How are citizenship and teamwork similar?
  • Think about a time you were part of a successful team? How did that feel?

Stenwood Elementary PTA

Interested in volunteering to be a class parent, volunteering in our cafeteria or library, OR just looking to stay connected with the great work of our PTA?

More information about the PTA is available on their website

Health and Safety

With the help of the PTA we are still working to see if we can make optional outdoor lunch a possibility for the upcoming school year.  The PTA needs parent volunteers and grade level coordinators to make it happen.  Regardless of outdoor lunch, we will still continue to have about a dozen tray tables set up at 6 ft apart if you would prefer your child to be distanced during lunch.

Additional Covid Safety updates will continue to be published to the FCPS website.
