Wakefield Forest - Message From the Principal

Letter from the Principal

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

We have received many questions about why Back to School Night is virtual this year. The renovation has created many unexpected challenges with cleaning and trash removal that our hardworking custodial team is working through, in addition to fixes that are occurring after students are on site in the evenings. This is why we are hosting Back to School Night virtually.

We will offer parent conferences in the fall. Families will have the option to choose in person or virtual for the conference format. Each classroom teacher will send out a schedule.

We are also planning to offer many in person family events this year, including the Fun Run, concerts, Book Fair and Musical, among other events. Our events calendar will continue to be updated as event dates are finalized.

Decisions are always made by looking at the best interest of the whole school, students, staff and families.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate our renovation.

Sharyn Prindle

Principal

Back to School Night - Virtual

Wakefield Forest will host a virtual Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Information from the administrative team, our PTA President and School Board Members will be posted for you to review ahead of time. The administrative team will host a question and answer session from 6:00 – 7:00 PM and classroom teachers will hold two 30 minute sessions. Each session will contain the same information. Classroom teachers will send the link to access their Zoom session.

6:00 PM – Q & A for Families with the Admin Team

7:00 PM – Session 1 Teacher Session

7:30 PM – Session 2 Teacher Session

The Wolf Den - Quads

Now that students have settled into routines, finding classrooms and navigating our new facilities, we ask that families please drop and meet students at the gate to the wolf den or other space outside of the quad area. This will support our school safety plan and the smooth start and end of the school day. Supervision for students begins at 8:25 AM.

Calendar Reminders

Friday, Sept, 2, and Monday, Sept. 5, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate with family and friends.

Renovation Corner

  • The school playground opened for student use on Monday, August 29, 2022. Some of the equipment was unable to be moved and reinstalled. Additional equipment is on order and will be installed when it's available.
  • The school office is moving today, September 1st. The new office is located near door 1 in the front of the building. Please plan to use the new door 1 starting Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The new door is further to the right from the original entrance along the fenced path.

Safety Drills During the School Year

We had our first fire drill today. Our focus was on our evacuation from the main building. If there was a fire or fire drill in the main building, the quads are not required to evacuate, because they are already at a safe distance from the building. We will continue to have fire drills to practice evacuation from both the main building and the quads to be prepared for an emergency.
