Franklin MS Weekly Update - September 1

Franklin Families and Students,

Good Afternoon!

It has been a great second week of the school year at Franklin Middle School. Our students and staff are settling into positive routines, developing relationships with each other, and forming their new classroom communities. This work will continue throughout the year as we keep the needs of our students at the center of all that we do.

We have some opportunities for all of you to connect with our school community in the coming days and I wanted to highlight those below:

  • Back to School Night – September 7 at 6:00 PM: We hope that you can join us for our Back to School Night event on Wednesday, September 7. This will be a virtual event via Zoom that features a synchronous presentation from the FMS Leadership Team. A Zoom link will be sent on September 7, and this session will be recorded and shared with the community if you are unable to join us at 6:00 PM. The session will feature updates about our focus for the school year, a preview of a day in the life of our students, and a spotlight on the supports that will be in place for your student this year. There will also be an opportunity for families to submit questions. We hope that you can join us at this virtual event!
  • Teacher Welcome Videos on Schoology: Now that we are in the 2nd week of the school year, we want to help you get to know your student’s teachers. Please take the opportunity to visit our FMS Parent Schoology page to view Welcome Videos from all of our teachers.  The videos can also be viewed from your child’s FMS All Student Schoology page. If you need any help with accessing the welcome videos, Schoology Resources can be found here or you can contact kacusson1@fcps.edu.

I am always available for your questions, concerns, and feedback at dpwright@fcps.edu. Our team is here to support you and your student.

Best wishes for an enjoyable and relaxing Labor Day weekend.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

World Language Credit Exam

The exam assesses reading and writing language proficiency in languages other than English. Students who take the exam may earn up to three World Languages credits for levels one, two, and three for the language of the exam. The credits may fulfill the World Languages requirements for the Advanced Studies Diploma. The FCPS World Languages Credit Exam is also an approved assessment for awarding the Virginia Department of Education’s Seal of Biliteracy. The exam is offered one time per school year. A student may participate in the exam two times per language, once per year, between grades 7 through 12. In other words, students have two chances per language to earn credits by taking the exam.

The exam is available for students in grades 7 through 12 who have proficiency in one of these 30 languages.  Students must be able to read and comprehend exam instructions and writing prompts in the exam language and respond to the writing prompts in the language of the exam.

The exam is paper-pencil and students will respond in their own handwriting in the language of the exam. Students earn credit based on the level of proficiency demonstrated by their writing.

All students must register for the exam through their school counselor. Registration opens Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 8:00 AM and closes on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 4:00 PM. Late registrations will not be accepted. Please click here for more information.

Proceeds from this Career Fair will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and local area STEAM organizations. Please note - this is not a Franklin/FCPS-Sponsored activity.
