Deer Park's Counseling Team
Hi Bucks! This year, Deer Park is lucky to have two full-time school counselors to help our students and their families have a great year! Mrs. Cottrell will be working with Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, & 6th grades and Miss Comer will be working with Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, & 5th grades.
Both counselors will be teaching classroom lessons related to our school-wide social-emotional learning themes. We encourage you to open a conversation with your students about these topics and practice these social-emotional learning skills at home. This year’s themes are as follows:
August/September- Self-Management
October- Growth Mindset
November/December- Wellness
January/February- Kindness
March/April - Equity
May/June- Teamwork
As always, we invite you to reach out to the school counseling teams with any questions or concerns you may have.

Body Safety Program
The Fairfax County Department of Family Services will be bringing the Body Safety Program, called "Speak Up Be Safe" to Deer Park the week of September 19th. This is a voluntary program offered to students in grades K to 6 focusing on teaching children about personal safety.
During the session a trained facilitator will present research-based, age-appropriate lessons to help children learn the skills to prevent or interrupt cycles of neglect, bullying and child abuse – physical, emotional and sexual. The Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe curriculum includes information for children, parents, teachers, and communities to reinforce important safety rules.
More information is available on the attached flyer. If you do not want your child to participate, please sign the opt-out form and return to your child's teacher
