Message from Ms. Kearns

Dear Lake Braddock Families,

Thank you for another great week here in Bruin Nation!  Our short week started with a wonderful visit from our new Superintendent, Dr. Reid, on Monday evening for a Community Conversation which helped to introduce Dr. Reid to our amazing Lake Braddock community.  We were also delighted to welcome our community to out Principal Meet-n-Greets on Wednesday!  We love hearing from our families about any concerns or celebrations to help us as we navigate a new school year.

We look forward to welcoming our Middle School parents here for Middle School Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 6.  Your Middle Schoolers should have come home with a flier for you regarding their schedule.  You can check out more information regarding this night below.

Reminder that there is no school Friday, September 2, and Monday, September 5, for the Labor Day Holiday.  We hope our Bruin Nation gets the opportunity to rest and relax as we delve further into the first quarter!

Enjoy your long weekend!

Go Bruins!

Important Reminders

DCR

We Need Your Consent for Digital Resources

At Lake Braddock, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your student’s teachers if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources they have chosen to use this year.

New Kiss & Ride Option

The kiss-and-ride process at the front of the building in the mornings has caused difficulties with buses entering the parking lot in a timely manner. Buses are arriving late, causing students to miss valuable instruction time, and drivers are late for their subsequent runs to pick up other students. In order to move more cars through kiss-and-ride faster, the alternate kiss-and-ride drop off area at Door 12 will be at staff direction. When the line of cars dropping off students stretches past the blacktop area, staff will direct families through the blacktop to drop off at Door 12. Families will then drive out through the back fence and follow the road to the Mersea Ct. entrance to leave campus onto Lake Braddock Drive. Drivers are encouraged to turn right out of the parking lot. Check out this video of Ms. Kearns driving the route.

Tip line users may identify themselves or remain anonymous.Concerns that do not impact the safety of our schools—concerns or information about programs, regulations, or policies—can be sent to the FCPS ombudsman online, at 571-423-4014, or ombudsman@fcps.edu

Procedures for Picking Up a Student Early

  • Prior to 8:00 a.m., the student must present a note from the parent to their subschool office. Notes must include time of dismissal, reason for leaving, and a contact number. Parents of middle school students must also include the name of the person picking the student up. Please note that this person must be listed as an emergency contact. At the time of early check-out, middle school parents must come in Entrance 1 and meet their student at the security desk. Anyone picking up a middle school student must bring a photo ID with them. High school parents may pick up students outside Entrance 1.
  • Notes are strongly preferred for early check-out, but if a parent is unable to send a note with the student, the parent should call the subschool office as early as possible. All calls will be confirmed by callback to a phone number on the emergency care card.
  • Students must check out at the subschool office when leaving school and check in with the security desk upon return. Students who leave school without checking out properly will be marked unexcused and may face disciplinary action (if returning to school, students are also subject to search). Students must contact all teachers of any class to be missed.
