Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I hope this finds you in good spirits and having a relaxing weekend. It has been wonderful getting to know and reconnecting with students. Our school culture is strong and well on it’s way to a successful year. Our students are the top priority, and I would like to reiterate my commitment to teaming with you this year. I have some important information I would like to share with you as you have conversations with your students about school.

Next week, all students will develop goals that will eventually be displayed on their backpacks. These goals will be aligned to our International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profiles, and can be focused on behavior, wellness or academics. They must have a minimum of two strategies that will assist them in achieving their goal during the first quarter. Feel free to ask your student what goal they chose next weekend. We will check in on these goals during advisory and have students reflect, celebrate, and adapt their strategies if needed.

Additionally, administrators will begin to conduct school academic readiness accountability checks between 7:30am-8:00am daily.

We will walk the school to ensure each student:

     - Has a backpack, laptop, and essential learning materials

     - Has their phones and earbuds off and away for the day

     - Has their hoods down

     - Is awake and ready to learn

The above expectations are placed on all students each day. The accountability checks are meant to be supportive and not punitive. We are holding our students to high expectations because we care about them and believe they can achieve anything with the right support and accountability.

We look forward to working with you this year. Please be sure to reach out to me, or your grade level administrator with any questions or supports you might need. Below is the contact information for grade level administrators.

Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Parent/Guardian Signature

We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year!

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the Parent Vue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.

Please contact us if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.

Vaccines

Be Wise, Immunize! Required Vaccines for 2022-23 School Year

Vaccinations are required for public school entry and help keep students protected from serious diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood vaccinations over recent years because of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and ready for school. Check with your students’ health care providers now to make sure they are up to date on their vaccines.

Appointments are required for most vaccination clinics. Don’t wait until the last minute when you might not be able to find an appointment. Visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of clinics or schedule with your family’s health care provider.

Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations to provide to their school. More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.
