Message from Mrs. Castillo

PTA

Thank you for an amazing first week of school!  Our staff enjoyed starting their Friday with delicious coffee and treats provided by Ms. Stokoe and our PTA.  Throughout the year the administrators and the PTA stock the staff lounge with drinks and treats to fuel our staff.  Consider dropping off snacks or beverages to help us keep the staff lounge stocked throughout the year.  Items listed were specifically mentioned by Lemon Road teachers and staff as their favorite things.  Use this sign up genius or purchase a favorite family snack:    https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0D4AAFA92EA3F85-stock

A few reminders:

  • Send in any completed (or partially completed) Summer Activity Boards
  • Email a photo of your child reading this summer to Ms. Burke (goburke@fcps.edu)
  • 4th - 6th graders interested in band or strings, be sure to return forms on Monday
  • Return any school forms at your earliest convenience

Today Mr. Hickman met with our student Safety Patrols!  It was fantastic to see so many student leaders interested in this role.  Thank you for sharing your children with us - it is a delight to collaborate with you.  Have a great weekend!

Polo Days, Freaky Fridays & Navy & Yellow Spirit Days

Polos

Lemon Road lions and staff show spirit most Fridays of the school year.  We have Polo Days when we ask everyone to specifically wear the PTA-provided polo, navy & yellow spirit days when everyone wears LRES spiritwear or our school colors (polos are also welcomed), and Freaky Fridays when typically our SCA will vote on a school-wide theme (like pajama day).  We aim for 100% participation of students and staff on these days.  If ever your child does not want to participate in the specific Freaky Friday theme, we encourage them to wear their polo.  Polo are also worn on all field trips as well as on our club photo day (TBD).  See below for the dates for the school year.

LRES PTA Updates

The Lemon Road PTA was thrilled to see so many families at the Tears & Cheers breakfast Monday and looks forward to many fun events and activities planned for our community. The PTA is a critical way to support the students, the teachers, and the larger LRES community.  We would love to see every family involved and engaged within our school community in a way that suits them and we would like to encourage every family to join the PTA.

The funds raised by the PTA through memberships, events, and fundraisers  fund opportunities that support the staff, students, and families. These include: field trip buses, student supplies, student scholarships, teacher supplies, community events, and much more.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage

Every year from September 15 to October 15, Americans celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by appreciating the community’s history, heritage, and contributions of the ancestors of American citizens who came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and South- and Central America.

National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors the culture and contributions of both Latino and Hispanic Americans. During this month the history and accomplishments of these groups are celebrated and recognized for shaping our country. This year, thanks to the dedication of our sixth grade team, we are proud of have a Heritage bulletin board on display in our cafeteria to celebrate what makes our Lemon Road family so unique! To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month we welcome families to bring in items which represent their Hispanic culture to be displayed both in the cafeteria and in our display case, located outside of the library. We ask that these items be small enough for a student to carry safely to/from school and that they are clearly labeled with their name, grade, and teacher to ensure that we return all items to their rightful owners.  Bins will be located at the entrance of the school starting, Monday, August 29th through September 12th. If you would like to email a picture you may send it to Ms. Dickey-Dunn at: ekdickeydunn@fcps.edu

Art Room Volunteers

Lemon Road loves parent volunteers!  Our Principals’ Coffee on September 9 will inform parents of many ways to be involved in the school - including volunteering!  Parents eager to begin volunteering can email our art teachers (Mrs. Norton and Ms. Polish) to set up one-time or regular volunteering in the art studio!  Ms. Norton: ksnorton@fcps.edu   Ms. Polish:  lepolish@fcps.edu
