Digital Consent is Needed

Students at Cedar Lane will use software that needs parental consent to access.  Some examples of that software include Google Additional Services (Google Earth, Chrome Extensions), LiveSchool, Kahn Academy, Padlet to name a few.  The full list of Cedar Lane specific software is presented on this web page:

https://cedarlaneschool.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresourcesCedarLane

Providing your consent to use the software can be given in several ways

  1. Send an email to your student's case manager, or any other teacher with permission
  2. Call the office at 703-208-2400 and give your permission
  3. Use this link to submit a digital form:

Parent consent is needed each year.  Thank you to the parents who have already completed this task!

Save The Date Student School Photos

Underclass Student Photos will be held on October 4, all day in the gym.

Cedar Lane will conduct the annual Senior Photo Day on Wednesday, December 7th at the school. All Seniors who expect to be a part of the Cedar Lane Class of 2023 are encouraged to participate in this important event.

The photography company Lifetouch will be conducting the photo sessions, which will take place in the Cedar Lane Gym. Lifetouch also produces Cedar Lane’s yearbooks.

Seniors will be asked to sign up for a specific time to have their photo taken on December 7th.  More information will be sent out as the date gets closer. Lifetouch will have an alternative site for photo sessions. That information will be provided on request.

For any questions about school photos, please contact Robb Metry at Cedar Lane School at rametry@fcps.edu  or call the school at 703-208-2400.

Text Messages for Parents

Parents can receive text messages from FCPS for emergencies and essential information

Make sure your cell phone numbers are listed in the parent/guardian contact information section on the emergency care information form for each of your children. Parents and guardians can view and update emergency contact information online using https://www.fcps.edu/resources/parent-communication-overview/wecareschool?utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_name=&utm_source=govdelivery&utm_term=

Text messages will be sent in the event of emergencies, delays or school closings, if buses are running more than 30 minutes late, if your student missed the morning attendance deadline, and for other important reminders.

Standard message and data charges may apply for text messages depending on your cell phone service plan. More about text messages is available online.

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activities

FCPS has tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/lightspeed-parent-reports
