A message from the Principal:

Dear Kilmer Families,

We’ve had a great first week of school! We welcomed Dr. Reid, FCPS Superintendent, to Kilmer on the first day of school. During her visit, she was able to talk with lots of our students and visit several classrooms.

It was exciting to visit the classrooms this week to welcome students back to school and join in during their community building activities to get to know each other and the Kilmer staff. Students also explored Schoology, learned about course content, and goals for the school year.

I want to take a moment to thank the Kilmer PTA for their support of our student orientation programs such as Shifting Gears and of our teachers during the teacher return week. .Thank you to our PTA for your continued support.

We look forward to the Kilmer Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 14 from 5:00 pm -7:00pm. This will be an in-person event in which parents and guardians can visit each of their student’s classes.

Sincerely,

Amy Miller, Principal

Community Conversations with Dr. Reid

Please save the date for a very special event! Dr. Michelle Reid, FCPS superintendent, will host Community Conversations at our feeder high schools.

Marshall High School

  • Thursday, September 22 ~ 6:30 PM -7:30 PM
  • Please register to attend here

These events will be a unique opportunity to help Dr. Reid get to know our school community and learn more about her vision for our district.

Language interpretation will be provided, as well as child care, and light refreshments.

Lockers

Beginning next week, students will have the opportunity to request a hall locker. Students who would like a locker may complete the locker request form posted in the All Students Schoology course. Requests are due by Thursday, September 1. Lockers will be distributed the week of September 6 - 9. Students with lockers will be expected to continue using their backpacks to carry their laptop during hallway transitions.

Attendance

It is important that your child attends school every day FCPS is in session unless he or she is sick or needs to be excused for a specific reason. If parent contact is not made, a note should be sent to the school with the student upon return. When parent contact is made, absences will be recorded as excused. If parent contact is not made within 48 hours, the absences will be recorded as unexcused. To report a student absent, please complete our online attendance form or call 703.846.8888 by 7:30 am to notify the Front Office if your student will be absent or arriving late to school. This form is designed for unplanned absences, late arrivals, and short-term prearranged absences only.

SIS StudentVue and SIS ParentVue

Class schedules are now visible in SIS StudentVue and ParentVue. SIS Parent Accounts provide access to view your child’s student information, including attendance, report cards, class schedules, gradebook, course history, discipline, health, and school information, and establishing another form of communication between home and school. If you had an active account from the 2020-2021 school year, you can continue to use this account for the 2021-2022 school year. SIS Parent Account Overview, Login, and Registration

The SIS Grade Book tab will be visible Tuesday, September 6. The Grade Book tab displays the assignments and scores earned that have been created in the teacher’s gradebook. Additional information about specific assignments can be seen by clicking on the assignment name. The Grade book tab is a great tool for students to access to monitor their academic progress in each course.

Schoology Parent Resources:

Parents can access important information on the All Parents/Guardians Schoology Course. The “Resource Folder” contains information such as the bell schedule, lunch schedules, and the Green/Blue calendar. You can also access recordings of information meetings and links to online forms.

Parents, We Need Your Consent!

We need your consent for your student to access important digital resources used for classwork on their laptop. Please review the digital resources used at our school and sign the consent form by visiting here.

SRR Parent Acknowledgement: Please log on to your SIS ParentVUE account and sign to acknowledge review of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Document or sign and return the physical form to the main office by September 30, 2022.

Kilmer School Counselors

All students are assigned to an interdisciplinary team and school counselor. A student’s school counselor is listed in SIS StudentVUE and ParentVUE on the Student Info tab. School counselors are a great resource for students and their parents in middle school. School counselors assist with navigating academic pathways, supporting mental health wellness, and monitoring student progress by implementing supports to assist students with meeting their full academic potential.

Wednesday, September 14 - Back to School Night, 5:00 - 7:00 pm

On this night, parents will have an opportunity to meet their child’s teachers, school counselor, and administrators, as well as learn about classroom policies and the curriculum their child will be learning in each course.

School Photos

Student portraits will be taken through PE classes on Wednesday and Thursday, September 14th and 15th. Our outside photographer, Victor O’Neill Studios, will be sending communication via email to all families prior to these dates with purchase information.

Parent Acknowledgment of Student Rights and Responsibilities

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by October 31, 2022.
