Student Pickup and Transportation Change Procedures
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Creating a sense of calm and routine at the end of the day is very important for our students and teachers. They are completing lessons and getting ready for dismissal.
Here are procedures that we have in place that create the least amount of disruption to the classroom during the day.
- Send a note in your child’s backpack, email the teacher, let the office know that your child will be dismissed early.
- Change of Transportation form on home page of website: all online requests must be made by 12:00 pm. For any changes or emergencies after 12:00 pm, please contact the office at 703-326-3100.
-
All changes in transportation and student pick-ups must be made by 3:30pm. We will not be able to honor any changes after that time unless it is a dire emergency.
Please let your child and the school know the plan that morning. They will appreciate it and we will too!
Thank you for your cooperation.
Warmly,
Candace J. Hunstad Elizabeth Baxter Greg Brotemarkle
Proud Principal Assistant Principal Assistant Principal
Please Label your Child's Belongings
Dear Parents,
We have been back to school for less than a week and we already have a few items in lost and found. These belongings do not have a name.
Please label their belongings such as lunch box, backpack, water bottles, sweatshirts and jackets that they can take off when they get warm.
Until they get into the routine, please check when they get home from school if they have everything. If not, please ask them to check lost and found or the office at school.
Labeling them is the best way to help us return them to your child!

First Week Of School
Hello HES families!
Our first week back to school is off to a solid start. We hope all your bees had a wonderful first day back in their classrooms. HES staff and Buzzy Bee certainly welcomed us all back in style: they literally rolled out the red carpet. Our wonderful Herndon Police Department were there to greet us all with high fives. They even brought along fan favorite, Bragg, their furry K-9 representative.
- Remember, one of the easiest ways to automatically support the HES PTA without even thinking about it is through AmazonSmile! Click here to learn how to set it up.
- A note on PTA membership: unfortunately, we're experiencing some glitches with our website at the moment. Please, stayed tuned for updates as we work to get it fixed ASAP. In the meantime, keep an eye out for flyers in the Thursday folders, it's also an easy way to join.
- Don't forget to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for all up-to-the-minute happenings with our hive.
The Safeway Foundation
Herndon Elementary PTA is partnering with Safeway Foundation and the Safeway store at 413 Elden St., Herndon, VA to raise funds to support our school projects and supplies.
During the month of August, you can show your school spirit by making a monetary donation at this Safeway location. All funds raised by Safeway Foundation and this store will be donated to Herndon Elementary PTA.
VP of Membership / President-Elect
We're changing things up a bit over here on the PTA Board and we still have a roll to fill. We're actively searching for someone to take over the VP role and handle membership duties, while shadowing our awesome president, Sara, so to assume the role of President next year. Do this sound like a job for you? Yes? We think so, too. You'll love it here.
Please reach out to us, we'd love to hear from you.
Spirit Wear Update:
One of our favorite things about the new school year - new school spirit wear! Order online here or be on the lookout for flyers in Thursday folders.
** All orders MUST be received by September 16th, 2022 **
Posted below is a little preview of what we have available this year (in youth and adult sizes). Our lovely president, Sara, and Spirit Wear Co-Ordinator, Andrea, were proudly modeling this year's colorful tie-dye bee tee at our Back to School Night Bash.
Please, reach out to us with any questions.
