We had a great return to school yesterday, check out highlights from the day and keep sharing your first day photos. We love seeing students and staff back together.

Resources to Support Regular Attendance

Four students with their heads down work on a project.

Creating a sense of belonging and building positive relationships with students are important factors in students attending school every day. Regular attendance has a direct impact on student success. For example, it correlates with high academic achievement, builds social and emotional learning, and increases a students’ chances of graduating from high school on time.

If you have a student who is not attending school regularly, please seek support as soon as possible. Your school counselor, social worker, family liaison, attendance specialist/attendance officer, or psychologist can help. Check the Employee Hub for additional attendance resources and materials.

UConnect is the online gateway to your human resources and payroll information. Log in with the same username and password you use to log in to your Outlook FCPS email and other systems. UConnect is only available to users when connected to the FCPS network or through VPN.

Use UConnect to verify your benefits selections and leave balances, view your pay and teaching credentials, or to update personal information. The start of the school year is a good time to log in to ensure your contact information is up to date. You should also double check that your work location phone number is correct.

By providing your cell phone number through UConnect, you ensure that emergency text messages from FCPS will reach you through the eNotify system. This is a great way to receive weather related closing information, which you should already receive via email.

Access to Gatehouse Administration Center

The Gatehouse Administration Building

Safety and security is a top priority at all our schools and administrative buildings. Beginning August 22, new procedures will further secure access to the Gatehouse Administration Center. Elevators are equipped with badge readers that will require an authorized employee working in the building to swipe for access to floors 2-5.

The main garage door and garage elevator lobby doors will be open and accessible to all staff and visitors from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Guests (any non-FCPS employee or an FCPS employee or contractor who does not have current access to the building) will need to be met in the lobby or garage elevator by a Gatehouse staff member to be escorted to floors 2-5. Alternatively, the guest can check in and be issued a yellow visitor badge at the Welcome Center allowing access to floors 2-5 and will be asked to return the badge at the end of their stay. Guest badges do not allow access to suites. Badges not returned will be deactivated.

Employees (or contractors) with an FCPS badge needing regular access may request badge access though OSS by emailing badgeaccessOSS@fcps.edu

Strengthening our access control procedures is an ongoing process, and the Office of Safety and Security (OSS) appreciates your help in ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.

Steady Growth Toward a Return to Pre-Pandemic Levels in Standards of Learning (SOL) Data

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has announced 2021-22 Standards of Learning (SOL) data for school divisions that shows Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has made steady progress towards a return to pre-pandemic levels.

FCPS annual pass rates for 2022 indicate that, while the road to recovery continues, FCPS students made promising gains in reading, mathematics, and science over the course of the 2022 school year.

Thank you, educators, for helping our students overcome the challenges of the past few years! Keep up the amazing work. Read more about our plans for continued improvement of the SOL pass rates.

Congratulations to our June FCPS CARES Winners

FCPS CARES is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. All FCPS CARES submissions were reviewed, and six winners were selected for the month of June—one for each region and the central office—to receive extra recognition for their work.

One of the winners is Elizabeth Snyder, first-grade teacher from Camelot Elementary School. She was nominated by a parent who has had two children in her classroom. “Ms. Snyder has found a way to make everyday ‘the best day ever’ for each of our children, and she should be recognized for her dedication to ensuring all of her students have what they need to grow and learn in her class.”

Other winners in June include:

  • Katie Tardiff, Bull Run Early Childhood Center.
  • Kyung Kim, Crossfield Elementary School.
  • Allen Dunn and Kristine Griswold, Groveton Elementary School.
  • Katie Crewse, Tessa Dean, Lindsay Leahy, Brittany Hunt, Maura Donahue, and Dotty Lin, Kings Park Elementary School.
  • Jessica Yaman, Wakefield Forest Elementary School.
