Message from the Principal

Dr. Maggie Grove

We are so excited to see all of you back at school! These hallways have been so quiet, and it is wonderful to hear the sounds of student voices ringing through our spaces. Each school year gives staff and students the unique opportunity to start anew and with promise of a wonderful year ahead. I’m thrilled to be working in close concert with our staff and Ms. O’Donovan to provide a thriving learning community for your children.

To that end, we are thrilled to kick off the year with a new school vision and mission statement that was crafted through feedback from families, students, and staff that will guide all of our work.

Vision: At Wolftrap, we will cultivate a safe and welcoming environment that nurtures every learner.

Mission: To support our vision, we will:

  • Learn about and celebrate ideas of equity and diversity in all students and elevate their voices.
  • Create a collaborative learning community that inspires empathy and acceptance.
  • Encourage risk taking and innovation and cultivate students’ persistence in academic pursuits.
  • Create opportunities for students, using Portrait of a Graduate skills, to engage in authentic learning that will equip them to face challenges with resilience.
  • Reinforce that accountability builds a culture of respect; be accountable for actions and strive to grow as a Wolftrap community member.
One Madison

In the coming weeks, I will provide you with the points from our School Improvement and Innovation Plan, along with our ESSER plans that will give more details about how we will nurture every learner.

Additionally, we are excited to nurture a culture of kindness in our schools, community, and world. The Madison Pyramid schools are starting the ONE campaign.  We will raise awareness that how we treat others matters and spread a caring culture of kindness throughout our community.  #ONEKindActVienna is about spreading love, and encouraging students, parents, teachers, and community members to think beyond themselves. The Madison pyramid acknowledges that kindness begets kindness.  By spreading kindness, we are creating a more compassionate community where everyone belongs.  We are One.  One Kind Act can change the world!  Be on the lookout for communication about how your child and family can participate in the ONE campaign throughout the school year.  You might even see your child’s kind acts, and your own, celebrated on social media with the #ONEKindActVienna hashtag.  We look forward to changing the world with you, ONE kind act at a time!

We are thrilled to welcome new faces of fantastic educators to our community this year. The PTA and I will feature these educators in upcoming newsletters. All of this to say, it is going to be wonderful year! I’m looking forward to connecting with all of you throughout the year.

Warmly,

Dr Maggie Grove
Principal

5 Ways to Get Involved and Stay Connected

The PTA Board is excited to welcome back all our families to a new school year. We have already been hard at work this summer, enjoying playdates with our Kindergarten and 1st grade families, welcoming you all at the Open House, and providing support and appreciation to our fabulous staff and teachers as they prepared for the new year.

1. Join the PTA and become a Friend of Wolftrap. Every year the PTA provides enrichment opportunities for students, community events for families, and support and appreciation for our teachers and staff. All of this is possible because of your donations! Join the PTA for as little as $25 per family, and become a Friend of Wolftrap with a suggested donation of $125.

2. Volunteer.  We have several committees that work over the year with all kinds of needs, from big to small, at all levels of time commitment. Check out our Volunteer page OR let us know what kinds of things you’d like to get involved with here.

3. Get Social. Stay connected with other parents, staff and teachers on our private Facebook group or our official Twitter account.

4. Visit our Website. It's been revamped - thanks Chris Harney! - so please visit for all you ever wanted to know about what's going on.

5. Read "Pawprints". From time to time, Dr. Grove will send out a newsletter between distribution dates of the Connection focused on administration updates, and district wide information.

So, Why Should I Read the Connection?

Great question! The Connection is your GO-TO resource for all things Wolftrap Elementary!

  • Looking for info about upcoming school-wide events?
  • Wondering how to sign up to volunteer?
  • Curious about how you can get free coffee every Wednesday just by walking to school?

You've come to the right place. This newsletter, the Wolftrap Connection, comes to you through your News You Choose subscription. It will arrive every week on Monday afternoon for the first few weeks of the school year and then we’ll move to every other week so we don’t overwhelm your inbox.

Our goal is to give you the highlights and then point you to our website so you can grab more information when you need it.

Stay tuned for future Connections to stay up to date on all the events and activities the PTA has in store for this year!

Quick Safety Note

For the safety of our Wolftrap students, please use the designated "kiss and ride" (student pick-up area by car) or park in permissible areas.

Please do NOT park on Talisman Drive when dropping off (or picking up) students from Wolftrap. Please obey the no stopping signs and no parking cones placed by our student patrol teams in both the mornings and the afternoons.

Thank you...

Finally, a huge shout out to the Audit Committee, the Sprout School Supplies team, the Welcome Committee, the After School Programs Committee, the Communications Committee, and the Teacher Appreciation Committee who have been at work over the summer to get us prepped for the school year! Great job everyone!

Here's to a Great Year!
