Welcome to the
2022- 2023 School Year
We are so excited to share with you our LCES theme for the 2022-2023 school year, "Growing Forward Together" and our hashtag #ONELCESfamily.
This theme and hashtag carry a lot of meaning which we will talk more about during our 1st PTA meeting of the year. Stay tuned for more information on joining the PTA as well as meeting dates and times.
Our staff shirts are green, so when you see someone wearing a green shirt with this image on it, feel free to ask a question or ask for help.
Thank you ALL for being such amazing and supportive parents and community members! Lees Corner is such an amazing school because of YOU and the community we have built together. Together, we make Lees Corner a happy and safe place where we can all learn and grow!
Share your first day photos with us on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #FirstDayFairfax. For more information on our school's social media accounts, please refer to the information at the end of this newsletter.
LCES’ school hours are Monday through Friday, 8:50 am to 3:35 pm.
We expect all bus riders, walkers, and Kiss & Ride students to be in the school building no later than 8:40 am. Instruction begins promptly at 8:50 am.
Bus schedules were sent out to families on or about August 12th via email. Emails were sent only to families of students who qualify for transportation services based on the home address. You may search your inbox for an email from the Office of Transportation Services.
Bus route information is available for parents to see online. Parents may check ParentVue to access bus numbers and bus routes for any eligible bus riders.
Bus information may change. Please check ParentVue again before the 1st day of school to see if there have been any changes to your child's assigned bus route and times.
Please be aware that all of us are getting used to new routines at the start of the school year. Thank you for your patience as those routines are established. If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. E-Notify (School Messenger) email messages will also be sent to announce significant bus delays.
Contact the Transportation Office at 703-249-7000. For any concerns after hours (after 5:30 p.m.), contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
Welcome to Here Comes the Bus! Know when your bus is approaching your stop. Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving them real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping them get to the bus stop on time. Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and an easy-to-use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet or smartphone.
How to Get Started:
Using the app is EASY! You will need the FCPS school district code 28982 and a Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account.
From a smartphone or tablet, download (for free) the Here Comes the Bus® app from the App Store or Google Play.

Please help us keep everyone safe during daily arrival and dismissal by following the route indicated by the yellow arrows in the map above.
It is easiest to join the Kiss and Ride line if you turn onto Hollinger Ave. from Stringfellow Rd.
The line does get long so allow extra time in your schedule.
Please also be aware that LCES staff members need to get into the parking lot. Be kind and leave a space at the entrance to the parking lot to allow teachers to pull into the lot, park, and make it to their classrooms in time to prepare for the arrival of students.
There will be adults on duty in the Kiss and Ride loop to assist students with unloading and loading from cars and to keep traffic flowing.
Please expect the process to take longer than expected as we all adjust to routines and schedules that are a normal part of every new school year.
Many families will use Kiss and Ride for both arrival and dismissal and the line can get long. Please be patient and kind with one another and with our staff on duty! Here are a few more helpful tips:
- morning drop-off starts at 8:35 a.m.
- plan on being in line early
- drivers should remain in the car
- school staff will be on duty to assist students in unloading and loading
- children should unload from the car on the passenger side only
- cars should remain in a single file line. Passing other cars is NOT allowed in order to ensure the safety of all students.
- afternoon pick-up starts at 3:35 p.m.
- for afternoon pick-up, please display your assigned number in the right corner of your front windshield. Make sure your child knows what your number is (ie. 352). We will use the numbers to call the students out to your car.
- Kiss and Ride ends before 4:00 p.m. Any students who have not been picked up by that time will be taken to the office. Parents will be contacted and must come to the office to sign their child out.
Many of our Lees Corner students walk to school or ride a bike. Here are some helpful tips to keep our walkers and bike riders safe:
- Students are safest when they walk or bike to school with a parent, trusted adult, or group of friends.
- Stay alert & report unusual or concerning events.
- There is a Crossing Guard near the entrance to the Kiss and Ride loop and the parking lot.
- There are bike racks near the parking lot and the walking trail.
- Bike riders must wear helmets.
- Bike riders must bring a bike lock to lock their bike to the rack and ensure it isn't stolen.
For the past two years, student meals have been free to all students. That will not be the case this year.
Student lunches will cost $3.25. Breakfast will cost $1.75. Milk bought separately will cost $0.60. Chocolate milk will be available in addition to regular and low fat white milk.
Menus are available online.
There are 3 options to pay for your child's lunch:
1. You can create a lunch account at https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain?requestAction=home and load money there.
2. You can send a check made out to Lees Corner ES Food Services
3. You can send in cash.
When preparing your child's lunch, please keep these tips in mind:
- Some students in your child's class may have nut allergies.
- In the cafeteria, there will be clearly designated "Nut Free" lunch tables for students with nut allergies. Students who sit at these tables may not have any nut products in their lunches. If they do, they will be asked to move to another table to keep our students safe.
- Be sure to pack a napkin, and a spoon or fork if your child will need one.
- Foods brought from home are not refrigerated or heated up at school.
- It is best if your child can open their own food and drink containers.
- Children should not share food at school.
The Lees Corner office is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Our phone number is 703-227-3500.
The start of a new school year is such a wonderful, exciting, and somewhat stressful time of year. Don't let the preparations and natural worries drown out the JOY of new beginnings, new friendships, and new opportunities to learn and grow together! Enjoy the special moments, capture the memories with some pictures and feel free to share your pictures with family and friends.
