Message from WPHS Administration
We are so excited to welcome all our Wolverines to campus on Monday morning. A big thank you to all who came to Wolverine Welcome yesterday. A reminder to please review the email you received from FCPS Food Services that includes your child’s lunch number. School lunches are no longer free for all students, so everyone will need to know their lunch number on Monday. If you may be eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch and have not applied, please do so as soon as possible. More information on how to apply is below.

Student Services / College and Career Center Updates
- WPHS Student Services is excited to welcome our students back for the 22-23 School Year. A reminder, two of our counselors are on leave to start the year and since we have been unable to secure substitute counselors, we have divided their alpha amongst the team. Those that work with Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Bluestein can review the alpha breakdown below regarding who to contact. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. McMahon (kjmcmahon@fcps.edu).
-
As we begin school on Monday we are only making schedule changes next week for the following reasons:
- Too few or too many classes
- Absence of required course for graduation
- Inaccurate placement by grade or course level
- The elective change window will be the second week of school August 29 - September 1. During that week, students who are interested in making an elective change should report to their elective class for attendance and then ask for a pass to see their counselor. Changes will be available based on space availability and only in the same period of their current elective.
College and Career Center Updates:
- Welcome back to all Wolverines and families from the College & Career Center! My name is Karen Young and I am the College & Career Center Specialist here at WPHS.

Throughout the school year there will be a variety of opportunities for students to learn information to assist in that planning. There are multiple ways for students and families to learn about the upcoming events in the College & Career Center…News You Choose, Monthly Newsletters, Schoology, and email. SAT/ACT Prep:
Time to think test prep! Are the Official Tests Still Relevant?
Test optional does not mean test blind! Check the websites of your favored colleges to see their admissions policy and check the scholarship pages to see if test scores are used for admissions, scholarships or class placement. Test optional mean YOU get to choose to send your score.

Rising Juniors: Think ahead to your junior year and all the AP classes, activities, and college research. When is the best time for you to prep and test? Once you’ve completed Algebra 2, you’re ready to test.
You have time to take a fall, winter, or spring prep class! Just remember to plan your testing and prep schedule around the sports/extracurricular activities! Plan on taking the official test three times. If you are taking Algebra 2 during junior year, target the June official test as your first attempt.
The Fall SAT Class preps for the November 5th official test and can take a whole load of stress off your junior year. Studies show that waiting until later in your junior year does not increase scores. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the bulk of your official testing completed before winter break of junior year? Not to mention that the prep will help with your PSAT/NMSQT scores!
Check out our WPHS test prep schedule!
Test Preference/Mocks: If you still need to take mock tests to determine test preference before registering for a class, all our events can be found on our WPHS test prep schedule.
Rising Seniors: Fall mock tests and an SAT prep class are available to prepare you for the November 5th SAT test! Take advantage of the opportunity to boost your score before college applications! Note that many schools will accept test scores after the application is submitted.
PTSA Test Prep Program Contact: The above are general guidelines. If you would like to discuss your student’s testing plan options in more detail, jet an email my way! I’m always happy to talk test prep - Marilyn Aboff, marilynaboff@yahoo.com
Need Flexibility? Try a SELF-PACED ONLINE CLASS: For only $125.00, the test prep program is offering self-paced online test prep created by Applerouth. This is an excellent course that covers all the content offered through the usual group class as well as tips and strategies for the official tests. Mock test results provide a solid study guide. Applerouth tutors are available to assist self-directed students with any questions during the course. One mock test is included in the self-directed class. Purchase on PTSA's MemberHub Store. The class will be loaded into your Applerouth account within a few days.
