Popsicles on the Playground Canceled
Today's event is canceled due to the weather forecast. We are sorry to cancel such a popular event, and hope that everyone has a fun and safe first day of school tomorrow! We hope to see everyone at the KPKG PTA Ice Cream social on September 16th at Kings Glen!
The Kings Park Staff is anxiously awaiting our student and family arrivals tomorrow. Please see a few reminders about arrival and dismissal and be sure to TWEET your first day of school pictures @kingsparklions.
Arrival and Dismissal
Kings Park ES bell schedule is 8:40am- 3:20pm. Please see the maps that illustrates students arrival and dismissal. Our school doors will open at 8:30am. Parents are welcome to walk their student to class the first week of school. Beginning, Monday, August 29th we ask that families say their goodbyes at the school entrances.
Each Kings Park ES family received in the mail a welcome letter that included a green card to help teachers with your child's daily dismissal. We ask that you please fill this out and pin it to your child's backpack for the first day of school.
To limit hallway crowding, we will dismiss as a school in the following waves:
-
3:20pm Kiss and Ride
-
3:23pm Walkers/SACC
-
3:25pm Buses dismissed in small clusters (in the order they arrive)
*Overall dismissal is projected in each classroom via the smartboard. Groups are dismissed by their teacher, so that staff can supervise students exit via their doorway (as other staff guide in the hallway/bus ramp). Once the hallway is clear the next group is dismissed.
Bus stop and route information was shared last week with families via an FCPS email and is also available on your ParentVue accounts. For more information about bus transportation, including how to access the Bus Delay Notification System, visit the Transportation page.
For those who have signed up for Kiss and Ride, see more information below.

Kiss and Ride Safety Information
Kings Park ES has an established area called the Kiss & Ride, which is designed as a safe place for adults in private vehicles to load and unload children. With the cooperation of all drivers, the Kiss and Ride is able to provide an efficient and safe transfer of children. To ensure safety for everyone, observe the following rules when loading and unloading children:
- Teach children how to buckle and unbuckle seatbelts so they can do it independently.
- Cell phone use prohibited to ensure student and staff safety.
- Practice so that children can open and close the car door independently.
- Seat children so they may enter/exit the vehicle easily.
- Load and unload from the passenger side of the car only.
- Designate a place in your vehicle where children’s belongings can be positioned for easy access when loading.
- Say “good-byes” as you approach the unloading area.
- Remain in the driver’s seat unless assisting your child with bulky items.
- Vehicles equipped with child protection locks may require assistance for your child to exit the vehicle.
- If assistance is needed, please roll down your window and ask the staff on duty.
- Pull forward as far as possible into the designated Kiss & Ride lane before loading or unloading.
- Load and unload in the Kiss & Ride area only.
- Children may not load/unload items from the trunk/rear compartment of the vehicle.
- Parking in the parking lot and calling to children to cross between cars is not permitted.
- Parking in the Kiss & Ride lane and leaving your car unattended is not permitted.
- Follow the directions and the guidance of the teacher on duty.
- Be kind and helpful to staff on duty.
- Remember the speed limit on school grounds is 5 mph.
- Allow additional time on rainy or snowy days.
- Make sure you and your student know their teacher’s name.
Sincerely,
Dotty Lin
