LCES Updates 8/19/22: Back to School Edition

Welcome Back to School

Welcome to the

2022- 2023 School Year

We hope most of you were able to attend Open House and Popsicle Playdates on the Playground yesterday. It was thrilling and so energizing to have families and students back in our building and making connections with each other and their teachers. We also loved seeing parents and families connect with each other and make new friends. Thank you ALL for being such amazing and supportive parents and community members! Lees Corner is such an amazing school because of YOU and the community we have built together.

Here Comes the Class of 2035

Bus schedules were sent out to families on or about August 12th via email. Emails were sent only to families of students who qualify for transportation services based on the home address. You may search your inbox for an email from the Office of Transportation Services.

Bus route information is now available for parents to see online. Parents may check ParentVue to access bus numbers and bus routes for any eligible bus riders.

Bus information may change. Please check ParentVue again before the 1st day of school to see if there have been any changes to your child's assigned bus route and times.

Here Comes the Bus

Here Comes the Bus App

Welcome to Here Comes the Bus!  Know when your bus is approaching your stop.  Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving them real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping them get to the bus stop on time.  Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and an easy-to-use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet or smartphone.

How to Get Started:

Using the app is EASY!  You will need the FCPS school district code 28982 and a Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account.

From a smartphone or tablet, download (for free) the Here Comes the Bus® app from the App Store or Google Play.

kiss and ride

Kiss and Ride: Helpful Tips

Many families will use Kiss and Ride for both arrival and dismissal and the line can get long. Please be patient and kind with one another and our staff on duty! Here are a few more helpful tips:

  • morning drop-off starts at 8:35 a.m.
  • plan on being in line early
  • drivers should remain in the car
  • school staff will be on duty to assist students in unloading and loading
  • children should unload from the car on the passenger side only
  • cars should remain in a single file line. Passing other cars is NOT allowed in order to ensure the safety of all students.
  • afternoon pick-up starts at 3:35 p.m.
  • for afternoon pick-up, please display your assigned number in the right corner of your front windshield. Make sure your child knows what your number is (ie. 352). We will use the numbers to call the students out to your car.
  • Kiss and Ride ends before 4:00 p.m. Any students who have not been picked up by that time will be taken to the office. Parents will be contacted and must come to the office to sign their child out.

medication

NEW Medication Protocols for the 22-23 School Year

The safety of your child/children is a priority for us. This school year, we are changing some medication protocols to help ensure the safety of our medication administration management in Fairfax County Public Schools.

Any time you drop off or pick up a medication in the health room, a Medication Delivery/Pick Up Form will be completed and signed by both the parent/guardian and the School Health Aide or FCPS staff member. This form will document that all required authorizations are complete, and the number of pills or amount of medication accepted/returned. A copy of the form will be given to the parent/guardian and school administrator.

  • Medications received will be verified to ensure the description of the medication on the container/packaging matches the medication in the container.
  • All medications must be in the original pharmacy container. Over the counter (OTC) medications must be in an unopened original container. It will no longer be acceptable for parents/guardians to bring in refills from home and place them into the container currently in the health room.
  • Only a 30-day supply of medications should be brought to school. No more than 100 tablets or pills of OTC medication should be brought to school.

3.  You can send in cash.

freee/reducedmeals

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Due This Summer

For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-23 school year.

Interested families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application BEFORE the first day of the 22-23 school year which is Monday, August 22nd. The online application is now available via the FCPS homepage. Click here to fill out the online application.

Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes.
