A Message from the Principal

Dear Ravensworth Families,

We are looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow for our Open House/Meet the Teacher event.  We will welcome our Kindergarten students and their families from 2:00-3:00 PM.  Our Grades 1-6 New Student Orientation will be from 3:00-4:00 PM in the cafeteria.  Grades 1-6 Open House will be at the following times: Last names A-K from 4:00-4:45 PM and Last names L-Z from 4:45-5:30 PM.  Come meet your teacher and drop off any classroom supplies at this time.  Our PTA will also be there selling Ravensworth Spirit Wear.

The first day of school is Monday, August 22nd. Our bell schedule is 8:35 AM – 3:20 PM. Any student arriving after 8:35 AM must be walked into the main office by an adult (we want to make sure they are not marked absent and that they get to class safely).  If need be, parents can walk their child to the door of the classroom on the first day.  If you need to talk to the teacher, please plan to do so at another time – they will be busy greeting students!  Similar to last year, we will be opening our doors to students at 8:20 AM.  If your child plans to eat breakfast at school, they will enter the building, purchase a breakfast, and eat in the cafeteria.

We can’t wait to begin our new year together!

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE.  Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there.  Parents that do not yet have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification. Families, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources

digital re

At Ravensworth ES our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: Ravensworth Digital Resources Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Our 2022-23 school supply lists can be found at https://ravensworthes.fcps.edu/academics/supply-lists.  Kindergarteners will be utilizing ipads this year. Headphones purchased for kindergarteners should go over the student’s ears and should have a standard straight jack.

Staffing Opportunities

Classroom Monitors: Ravensworth is looking for several classroom monitors for the 2022-2023 school year. Monitors will work Monday – Friday from 8:15 AM – 3:45 PM on the days students are in school. Monitors will be responsible for supervising students in a variety of settings (classrooms, lunch, recess, specials). Teachers will provide directions/assignments for monitors and students. Please email Patrick Bourjaily, Assistant Principal, if you’re interested in this opportunity and apply here.

Substitute Teachers: FCPS and Ravensworth will need substitute teachers and substitute instructional assistants this year. Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, retirees, college students, and anyone who wants a flexible work schedule. Like many school districts across the region and country, FCPS is looking for kind and caring substitute teachers to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers need to be out of the building. If you are interested in working as a substitute teacher or substitute instructional assistant, you are able to set parameters for the days you are available, the grade levels you would like to teach, or the schools where you want to assist!

If you would like to learn more about becoming a substitute teacher or instructional assistant, FCPS is offering virtual information sessions. Sessions are held weekly on Wednesdays from 1-2 p.m. Candidates will receive an email link to the virtual information session the Monday before the session.

  • Upcoming Information Sessions:
  • August 10, 17, 24, 31

Sign up for the information session here.
