Transportation Updates

Kiss and Ride Information

  • Welcome to the new school year. This is to inform you of our Kiss and Ride procedures for the end of the day. During the first week of school we will be distributing a Kiss and Ride card. Please place it on the passenger side dashboard of your vehicle with your child’s name and grade level. All students will be waiting in the cafeteria and we will be calling students to cars as you arrive. Beginning September 6thif you do not have the card on your dashboard you will be asked to park and come in to the office to pick up your child. Please be sure to get as many vehicle cards as you need to ensure that all your vehicles can display the card.
  • As a reminder students should only be entering and exiting cars from the passenger side of the vehicle. Also, students will be dismissed to a vehicle ONLY. Please do not walk up to the cafeteria exit door to pick up your child.
  • We thank you in advance for your flexibility and help with ensuring the safety of the children.
  • No pets are allowed on school grounds

Back to School Open House and Picnic - Sept. 8

Join us for our Back to School Night Picnic. We are combining back to school night and our welcome back picnic. The school will be open from 5:30-6:30 for you to see your student's classroom and stop by and say hello to their teacher. The picnic will be from 6:30-7:30 on the playground and fields. Bring a picnic dinner or buy dinner from one of the food trucks available. There will be music, games and friends to meet. Be sure to stop by the PTA table for a free treat for our students!

Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy

Students in K-8 must keep phones, smart watches and other similar devices silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Cell phones and other electronic devices may only be used on campus before and after school.

Paperless Opt-Outs Available!

As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE.  Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there.  Parents that do not yet have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification. If you need to set up your ParentVUE account, you can create one online via the FCPS ParentVUE Registration page.

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms will be included in your child’s back-to-school/orientation packets and are available online for Elementary (K-6), Middle School (7-8), and High School (9-12).  Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6) , Middle School (7-8) , and High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology.  Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account.  Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media).  Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Program questions may be addressed at Daniels Run by contacting, Sara Van Aalst, Assistant Principal, smvanaalst@fcps.edu, or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu
