Mr. Lundy’s Welcome Back Letter
August 10, 2022
Dear Cedar Lane School Families,
I hope this letter finds you well as we enter the final few weeks of summer, and welcome to the 2022-23 school year at Cedar Lane School. As we embrace beginning a new school year, I want you to know that the staff of Cedar Lane are committed to developing an instructional program that will meet your student’s academic and social/emotional needs. We are looking forward to working with you and your student.
Cedar Lane School offers a combination of high-quality, engaging learning experiences; intensive support for emotional and/or behavioral needs; and a variety of initiatives and programs which will help to foster our students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. The foundation of our work is a belief in the importance of content, pedagogy, and relationships. I invite you to commit yourselves, in partnership with Cedar Lane School, to the support and dedication your student deserves. It is through this partnership that our students’ successes will be maximized.
This year, Fairfax County Public Schools have re-committed to focus on Keeping Equity at the Center of our work and ensuring that every student is seen, supported, and challenged! Educational Equity will continue to be an area of focus for us at Cedar Lane as well. We will continue our Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) through Panther Time with your student’s IEP case manager.
You will receive a hard copy of this letter and other useful information in a packet to be mailed later this week. I want to draw your attention to several items that need to be returned including: the Emergency Care Information form (SS/SE-3) and the Health Information form (SS/SE-71). Both forms are essential for the school to provide medical care for the student and need to be filled out each year. Both forms are available in fillable fomat in weCare, which can be accessed only through your SIS ParentVUE account. Additional information can be found on the FCPS webpage at the following link
https://www.fcps.edu/resources/parent-communication-overview/wecareschool. The forms can be completed entirely online or, if you prefer, you may email the completed forms to our Student Information Assistant, Mr. Brad Tarantino at bjtarantino@fcps.edu, or return completed copies with the self-addressed stamped envelope included in the mailing.

FCPS has changed the cell phone policy for students. Phones and accessories are to be silenced and put away during instructional periods. Please see the updated Regulation below:
Phones must be silenced and put away during all instructional periods. Phone accessories are also to be silenced and away when phone use is prohibited. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. Storage may be in a locker, backpack, pencil bag, etc., during classes. Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency. Teachers may allow usage of cell phone for instructional activities where they are the most appropriate tool, however one-to-one FCPS devices should meet most needs.
Parents, please partner with us in monitoring appropriate electronic device use during school.
Thank you in advance for your collaboration, responsiveness, and support. I look forward to seeing all of you at our virtual Back-to-School Night in September! In the meantime, you should always feel free to contact us by phone (703) 208-2400.
