Student Bus Route Assignments
Transportation Services emailed student bus route assignments last week. Please note that the provided times are estimates and that buses may be delayed due to weather, traffic conditions, and a national and regional driver shortage. Please check the Here Comes the Bus app or FCPS School Bus Delays website for potential delays. Students are expected to be at their bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pickup time. A double back route assignment may require your bus schedule to be adjusted earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. FCPS will send out a final bus schedule on August 19.

Emergency Care Form
As needed, over-the-counter medications may be transported to school (directly to the clinic) after the first day by high school students, however the medication must be in the original unopened container and accompanied by an appropriate Medication Authorization. We can no longer accept open containers of over-the-counter medications.
All prescription medications must be transported to school by a parent or designated adult. Students are not allowed to bring in prescription medications. Prescription labels must include a description of the medication.
Due to changes in the medication policy, it may take longer to drop off your student’s medication. Please allow time for this, and thank you for your patience.

Required Immunizations
All students are required to be immunized against certain communicable diseases to attend school in the state of Virginia. It is important for all students to receive the required immunizations.
Please talk with your family health care provider about whether or not your children are up to date on their vaccines before the new school year begins. Submit updated immunization records to your school as soon as possible. Appointments are required for most vaccination clinics. Don’t wait until the last minute when you might not be able to find an appointment. Visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of clinics or schedule with your family’s health care provider
More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.
Meningococcal Vaccine Reminder - Class of 2023
The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into one of its schools. All students in grade 12 are required to have been immunized with one dose of the Meningococcal Vaccine given at the age of 16 or older. Please read this information for submitting records to McLean. Proof of immunization must be submitted to the school. These documents need to be returned prior to the start of the 2022-23 school year, preferably by July 1. For more information on this requirement, visit this FCPS website
New Asthma Form for the 2022-2023 School Year
Attention parents of students with asthma and rescue inhalers. Starting with the 2022-2023 school year, all students bringing an inhaler to school will need to have a signed copy of the Virginia Asthma Action Plan with them, in addition to an FCPS authorization form. The asthma action plan must be filled out by the physician and the authorization by the parent (and student for self-carry.) If you are planning to send in an inhaler in the fall and have not received an email with details, please reach out to the public health nurse at jstein@fcps.edu for more information.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application Available
Families will need to apply for Free and Reduced-price meals, which they have not had to do since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.
- The application is now available on the webpage.
- Paper applications will be available at schools (except ones designated as a CEP school) at a date to be determined.
- Approved FRM eligibility letters may also be used to provide additional benefits.
Please know that we will not share your data or personal information with anyone else. See FCPS’ Trust Policy.
For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

|
In August, rising junior Danielle Hunter (left) earned the Girl Scout Gold Award.
Danielle's Gold Award project addressed the issue of inclusivity and brought awareness to different communication styles. American Sign Language and dance were merged as a joint communication tool through workshops. Issues of accessibility and comfortable levels were addressed to create a welcoming and safe environment for all participants to share in the art of dance. The skill of allowing oneself to deepen and develop empathy and understanding for others was addressed and highlighted.
