First Day of School Reminders:
Hello Rocky Run Rams and families,
We were so excited to connect with so many families and students at Rams Rally and Orientation over the past two days. The Rocky Run staff was energized by the positivity and smiles from all who attended and we are looking forward to building strong relationships throughout the school year. We want to work together with you to ensure that Rocky Run MS is a place where all in our community are welcomed and valued. We are grateful for your partnership.
Monday August 22 is the first day of School and is a BLUE Day. The building will be open at 7:07 AM and class begins promptly at 7:30 AM with first period. All students will attend periods 1,3,4,5 and 7 on Monday.
Please review the information at the bottom of this message as a family, including the updated FCPS cellphone policy. You will find several important reminders that will help us have a successful first week of the school year.
NEW - Away for the Day!
Student personal electronic devices including cell phones, tablets, airpods/earbuds must be silent and kept away for the day in a backpack or locker during the instructional day from 7:30 AM-2:15 PM daily per FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities expectations.
Schedules and Lockers
Students will receive their official schedules in first period and their locker assignment and combination. Please note that locker use is optional and students may carry backpacks throughout the building.
Attendance
Please review the Attendance Procedures to report student absence, late arrival or early dismissal.
Laptops and School Supplies
All students will be receiving their laptops during the first few days of school during their Health and PE classes. Students should come prepared to school with a notebook and something to write with. Teachers will review needed school supplies and help all students get prepared for classes throughout the first week.
You can find a list of suggested school Supplies on our website.
Transportation and Kiss and Ride
Students are encouraged to walk, bike or take the bus to school. We do expect heavy volume in the Kiss and Ride Loop during the first few days of school and you can anticipate delays. Please watch this video if you plan to use the Kiss and Ride Loop for arrival or dismissal.
Parents/guardians should review their Parent Vue account in the Student Information System (SIS) for updated bus route assignment information.
Show Your School Spirit!
Start off the school year with new Rocky Run spirit wear! Browse the different styles and colors in the Bonfire online store. The beginning of the year sales end on Friday, August 26 for delivery to your home by September 16. Visit the spirit wear store here!
Library Volunteers Needed
The Rocky Run Library is looking for adults to volunteer their time on a regular basis to make our place the best it can be! Some tasks we have volunteers do include shelving books and helping with special projects. We are happy to work with your schedule! If you are interested or would like more information, fill out this Google Form. We will be hosting Volunteer Orientation next week for training. Thank you!
Student's Forgotten Items/lunches
Please do not drop of a student's forgotten items such as lunch, cell phone, classroom assignments, instruments, etc. to the main office. Due to the schedule and frequent class changes, we cannot interrupt class to notify a student that an item has been dropped off and students may not check their phones during the school day. Teachers understand that at times students forget items and make accommodations. Lunch is available for purchase each day in the cafeteria. If you have a unique concern related to your student, please reach out to their school counselor.
The Rocky Run staff is excited to see all of our students back at school. We are here for you and are looking forward to connecting and building relationships. Together WE are RAM STRONG!
Thank you and have a great first day!
