Message from Dr. Floyd
Good afternoon Woodson Community,
Monday morning we will begin the 2022-2023 school year! We are excited that Channel 9 News will be at Woodson at 5am to document #FirstDayFairfax with our Cavaliers.
Please take time to read this newsletter as it has very important information to help start this year smoothly.
Many have asked where to find the bus information. It can be located online through the SIS ParentVUE Mobile App, SIS ParentVUE online version and on SIS StudentVUE Mobile App.
SIS ParentVUE Mobile App: Login and select your child, then select Student Info. At the bottom of the screen you will see white text “Additional Information.” Tap on the Additional Information text then scroll down to Transportation and you will be able to view the bus information.
SIS ParentVUE on the computer: Login and select Student Info on the left menu. Then scroll down to Transportation and you will be able to view the bus information.
Many students have also asked about lockers. Freshmen and Sophomores were automatically assigned lockers. Students and parents can find locker numbers and lock combinations in SIS, under the Student Information Tab. If a Junior or Senior would like to have a locker, please see a staff member in our Student Services Department.
We are excited to share Woodson’s new integrated events and activities calendar. View our calendar to learn the Odd/Even schedule, athletics, performing arts and school-wide events, 3rd period schedule, and much more.
Please let your administrator or me know if you have questions over the weekend. Contact us by clicking on our names located on the Administrative Team page of the Woodson website.
Enjoy the last weekend of summer,
Dr. Floyd Principal

To access weCare@school, log into ParentVUE, select FCPS Links from the left menu, click on weCare@school - Update Emergency Care Info. After reviewing each section of the form, please click the Submit the Form button to send the updated information to the school's system. Click here for more details.
-
Digital Resources - Parental Consent Form
Woodson HS uses a variety of digital tools for learning. Please look through the list and digitally log in to sign the form. You will need your students' ID number to access this form. See #8 for more details.
-
Student Rights and Responsibilities
Parents will be able to digitally sign off on the Student Rights and Responsibilities document through their ParentVUE account.
Optional Forms
There are other optional forms to complete if applicable - FCPS Privacy and Opt-Out Forms, FLE Opt-Out Forms, Military-Connected Student Form, Free and Reduced Lunch Application, Homeless Student Referral Form, and medical authorization forms. Visit the site for Required and Optional Return to School Forms page to view all the forms.
Paperless Opt-Outs Available

Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-outs listed there. If you need to set up your ParentVUE account, you can create one online via the FCPS ParentVUE Registration page.

NEW News
3. Kiss and Ride and Parking Procedures
It is that time of year, we are about to open school! This is the most exciting time and we want to make it as smooth as possible.
In order to maximize traffic flow and safety of all on campus, we need everyone to arrive by 8AM (this allows students to get to class at or before 8:10AM).
Please read the following procedures for parking and Kiss and Ride indicated by the map above:
1 - Bus and staff entrance: This is the first entrance off Whitacre Road into the Woodson property.
2 - Senior parking lot: The second entrance off Whitacre Road into the Senior lot is for Senior student parking only.
3 - Whitacre Road Kiss and Ride: The third entrance off Whitacre Road is the entrance to the Kiss and Ride loop by the tennis courts. Drop off students BEFORE 8AM at Door 9, not before (only in front of) Door 9 for safety reasons.
4 - Junior parking lot: The last entrance off Whitacre Road, which is also the stadium entrance. When looking at the stadium, the Junior lot is on the left.
5 - Pickett Road Kiss and Ride: If you are coming to Woodson from 236, use the Pickett Road entrance, NOT Whitacre Rd. This will allow you to drop your child(ren) off at Door 2. Only staff can access the front lot from Whitacre Road. Only staff can access Kiss and Ride at the front of the school from Whitacre Road.
DO NOT park at the shopping center across the street; they will tow your car.
If you have never used the lots at Woodson High School, please do a dry run prior to the first day of school.
Remember, students are expected to be in class at 8:10am, not walking in the doors of the school. If your child(ren) use the school bus and the bus is late, students are marked excused tardy (EXT) in SIS attendance.
Please know that school staff and the SRO are not permitted to direct traffic which is why it is even more important that students are at school by 8AM, to ensure any backup of traffic does not cause your child(ren) to be unexcused tardy (UNT) for class.
Thank you for your assistance with this very important safety matter.
4. Student Parking Passes
Parking passes for the 2022-23 school year are available for purchase online only. The cost for a full-year parking pass is $200.00.
Parking is free the first week of school while parking passes are purchased. Enforcement will begin on Monday, September 12th. Purchase your parking pass on the Woodson website.
5. Attendance
Attendance is critical to student success in the classroom.
If your student will be absent from school, a parent/guardian must notify the attendance office. Below is a quick guide for reporting all-day absences, late arrivals, and early check-outs from school.
6. School Lunch Money and PIN
Prices for meals are the same as they were before the pandemic in 2020. School breakfast for students costs $1.75. Lunch is $3.25 for elementary students and $3.50 for middle, secondary, and high school students.
The best way to purchase meals (and additional food items) is to use MySchoolBucks. Set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account online.
Purchases made with MySchoolBucks keep cafeteria lines moving more quickly. Be ready on day one by setting up your child’s MySchoolBucks account, looking over the menus, and helping them learn their pin.
Parents received an email from FCPS Food and Nutrition Services that includes your child’s pin on Wednesday, August 17th.
IMPORTANT: The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students expired at the end of the 2021-22 school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year. The application for the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program is now available online.
Check out Woodson's new integrated Events & Activities Calendar!
7. FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Reid to visit Woodson Pyramid for a Community Conversation
Please join us for a Superintendent Community Conversation at Woodson HS on Wednesday, August 24th, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Learn more about Dr. Michelle Reid, FCPS superintendent, and help her get to know our school community.
Language interpretation will be provided, as available, as well as child care and light refreshments. Please register to attend.
Please Note: Purchasing Woodson PE Uniforms are optional.
8. Families, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources
At Woodson High School, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://woodsonhs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.
Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your teachers and counselors if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

9. Changes to Medication Protocol
The safety of your student is a priority for us. This school year, we are changing some medication protocols to help ensure the safety of our medication administration management in Fairfax County Public Schools. These changes include:
- Any time you drop off or pick up a medication in the health room, a Medication Delivery/Pick Up Form will be completed and signed by both the parent/guardian and the School Health Aide or FCPS staff member. This form will document that all required authorizations are complete, and the number of pills or amount of medication accepted/returned. A copy of the form will be given to the parent/guardian and school administrator.
- Medications received will be verified to ensure the description of the medication on the container/packaging matches the medication in the container.
- All medications must be in the original pharmacy container. Over the counter (OTC) medications must be in an unopened original container. It will no longer be acceptable for parents/guardians to bring in refills from home and place them into the container currently in the health room.
- Only a 30-day supply of medications should be brought to school. No more than 100 tablets or pills of OTC medication should be brought to school.
All requirements outlined in FCPS Regulation 2102, First Aid, Emergency Treatment and Administration of Medication for Students, continue to apply. We appreciate your support in implementing these new safety practices. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Public Health Nurse Amanda Yanchus at 703-481-4242.
