Message from the President

Fairfax Families,

We are looking forward to an exciting new school year and the opportunity to reconnect! The PTSA is here to help you, your students and our teachers get the most out of their high school experience and build a supportive community for all our families. We invite you to join us as a member, MemberHub, volunteer Fairfax High School PTSA - Volunteer (fairfaxptsa.org), and voice to stay involved and invested in FHS. Welcome Back

Welcome Back Breakfast for

FHS Teachers & Staff

The PTSA is so happy to welcome our teachers and staff back to school and are serving the FHS staff breakfast on Monday, 8/15. We are asking for donations of food and other items to support the event!

Staff Breakfast SignUp

Please deliver or ship directly to Jen Seifert or drop them off at FHS NO LATER THAN Friday, 8/12.

Financial donations are ALWAYS appreciated and are extremely helpful, as the PTSA is working on a very limited budget but still wants to recognize our amazing staff! Please donate here MemberHub, or add a donation when you sign up to be a PTSA member!

We appreciate your help and generosity so we can welcome back our teachers and staff to another great year at FHS! Thank you so much!

Volunteers

Looking to get more involved?

The PTSA is still seeking parent volunteers to manage the Reflections Program and the grocery rewards programs. Both these roles can be handled independently outside of work hours using resources from the FHS and National PTAs. Please reach out to Laura at president@fairfaxptsa.org if you are interested!

Reflections is a 50+ year-old National PTA arts program which provides opportunities for student recognition and access to the arts to boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life. Students submit their completed works of art in one or more of the categories: dance, choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography or visual arts, using this year's theme, "Show Your Voice." The parent coordinator would publicize the program and help students submit their artwork for judging this fall. General Reflections information here: Reflections Arts Program | National PTA

The grocery rewards coordinator would help find "hidden money" from local grocery rewards programs and large retailers like Amazon Smile. At this time the PTSA receives yearly checks from a few of these programs, but with a little research and publicity, it could be a profitable no-cost income source!

Mock SAT/ACT

On Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 9am the Fairfax High School Academic Boosters will again be partnering with Applerouth Tutoring to offer Mock SAT and ACT exams.

This is a perfect opportunity for students who haven’t started their testing to become familiar with the format in a stress-free environment at FHS for only $25. We will also offer the Mock ACT for students who have already taken the SAT and wish to see if the ACT might be right for them.

Students are encouraged to take a practice test before attempting the actual exam. They may select either the SAT or the ACT practice test. Students will receive detailed score reports to help them determine which areas they need to study.

To register, go to:

http://www.applerouth.com/schools/8801/

SAT code: M515725

ACT code:M515736

Can’t make this date? Future test date @ Fairfax on Saturday, March 18, 2023

ACT code: M515740

Tips for New Families to Navigate the Building

  • When bringing your student to school, turn at the lion statue to drop them off at the flag poles. This keeps cars out of the bus lane and avoids congestion in the parking lot.
  • The main entrance of school (by the flagpoles) is Door 1. After athletic practices students usually leave through Door 21 on the right side of the building near the football stadium ticket booth. Academy Students usually use Door 10 at the back of the building.
  • The main office is immediately inside Door 1 on the right. If you head straight toward the back of the building, the Auditorium will be on your right. If you continue toward the back, you will run into the cafeteria. Most of the athletic and music classes are on the right side of the building, academic classrooms on the left and academy in the back. All the halls have "street names" to help your kids find their way to their classrooms.
  • We hope to see you all at the "Fear the Roar" Open House on August 19th! Stop by the PTSA booth to become a member, pick up a map, learn about how to get involved at FHS and find out more about Academic Boosters and All Night Grad.
