Plan to Submit Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications this Summer
Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year.
Interested families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application ten days prior to the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application is accessible on the webpage.
Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes. Schools also benefit from funding opportunities based on Free and Reduced Price Meal application numbers.

School Immunization Requirements
As we begin to look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, I encourage everyone to Be Wise, Immunize! Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.
I encourage you to check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.
Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations and bring that to Gunston Elementary as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us at 703-541-3600.

Calling All 6th Grade Students - we want to hear from you!
Ms. Rucinski and Mrs. Opie would like to extend an invitation to all rising 6th Grade students. We would like to invite our 6th Grade Students to the Gunston Cafeteria on Tuesday, August 16th from 12:30pm-1:30pm for pizza and conversation. Our purpose is to get to know our 6th Graders better and hear thoughts from our 6th Graders about the wonderful things they've experienced at Gunston and how we can improve to ensure that all students feel welcomed at school! If your 6th Grade student is able to attend, please RSVP to Kristen Rucinski at krucinski@fcps.edu on or before Thursday, August 11th.

Class Assignments
Students’ individual classroom teachers will call families directly by the evening of Tuesday, August 16th following their return to contract on August 12th . We are still registering students; therefore, are unable to finalize class rosters. As Gunston Elementary is a dedicated Professional Learning Community, teachers at every grade level collaborate interdependently throughout the school year to support the academic and social-emotional achievement of all students. All teachers are highly qualified and were selected as members of this staff because they meet the high standards and expectations we have in our community. We appreciate your support of all of our talented teachers!

Tax Free Weekend
