Dear Beech Tree Family:
It is with mixed emotions that I share with you that I have accepted an incredible leadership position with another school division in VA for the 2022-2023 school year. As I’ve shared before, my one and only son has graduated from our Justice Pyramid, and I’ve spent the summer experiencing his excitement for his new adventure in college. This has lit a fire in me to also want to experience a new journey, where I will continue to learn and grow in a new environment. This is why I have accepted a new position, as Principal at Oak Street Elementary School, in Falls Church City Public Schools.
I am grateful for the opportunities that Fairfax County has offered during my 20+ years in this wonderful school division. I am equally grateful to have served you as your Principal since 2013. Being your Principal has been the highlight of my professional journey as an educator. As a school community, we have been able to accomplish incredible things: Bi-weekly collaborative learning team meetings, where a literacy coach and math coach facilitate instructional planning that is focused, purposeful, and vertically aligned; Professional Development Mondays, where teachers continue developing their instructional efficacy during school hours, within their grade level teams; Monthly Academic and Socio-Emotional Multi-Tiered Systems of Support meetings, where student progress is monitored and interventions are identified and provided, as needed; Professional Development Leadership and Data Leadership Teams, who meet monthly to plan for teacher-selected professional development and keep up with the latest data available and best use of such data to improve instruction; And an outstanding partnership with our PTA, our community and our business community partners.
Our Beech Tree ES is a terrific place for our students and families. I thank you for all your support. Your children are a blessing to all who know them, and our teachers are like no other. I look forward to welcoming our staff during their planning days.
In cooperation with our Department of Human Resources, our Regional Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Fabio Zuluaga, has appointed Ms. Stephanie Carpenter, current Assistant Principal at Westlawn ES, as Acting Principal at Beech Tree, effective August 15th. Ms. Carpenter brings a wealth of experience at the elementary level as a former elementary teacher, instructional coach, and Assistant Principal in various school settings. I will be working with Stephanie next week to ensure a smooth transition as we open our school for our students and families. Ms. Carpenter will help us in this capacity until a permanent principal is appointed.
The Region 2 Office will announce the next steps in selecting a permanent Principal for Beech Tree. We plan to have a great deal of community involvement as we select our new Principal who can take Beech Tree to the next level of success.
