Dear Poplar Tree Families,
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! We are excited to see our students and families at our Welcome Walk and Open House next week. Our school theme this year continues to be We All Belong Here! We have also added a layer to our theme which is You Can Count On Us! Below is a graphic with our commitments to our students and community as we begin this school year.
❗You Can Count On Us:
- To keep our students safe.
- To provide rich learning experiences that prepare our students for what’s ahead.
- To make our students feel like they belong.
- To help our students become better communicators and collaborators.
Teamwork is a core value at Poplar Tree and parents/caregivers are an essential part of our team. We hope that your child or children can Count On You to develop a positive relationship with your child’s teacher and presume the positive.
Throughout the summer, it has been widely reported about the severe teacher shortage. We are very fortunate to have a full staff of dedicated educators at Poplar Tree! We feel like we have the best team in the county. On Tuesday, August 16, you will receive an email directly from your child’s teacher welcoming you to the school year. Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping them understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. Please also remember that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher. ALL of our staff members work hard to make school a positive experience for ALL of our students.
Poplar Tree is eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life. We are all so excited to see you soon!
Sue Andujar, Principal
Carol Larsen, Assistant Principal

Volunteers Needed!
The 6th grade committee is seeking help with the planning of 6th grade activities. If you are interested, have questions or want to learn more, please email Katie Booker at 6thgradecommPTES@gmail.com.
Thank you!
It’s still summer! Let’s do it!
The 6th grade committee will have the Kona Ice Truck at Open House on Friday August 9th from 9-11. A portion of the proceeds will go to the 6th grade committee to support end of the year activities.
**This activity is sponsored by the Poplar Tree PTA and is operated independently of the Fairfax County School Board, Superintendent and Poplar Tree Elementary**
At Poplar Tree Elementary, our teachers use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families.
Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent HERE. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS HERE.
Included on this page is also a 🔗 link to a form 🔗 where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission.
Please reach out to our School Based Technology Specialist, Leslie Leisey (lfleisey@fcps.edu) if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year. THANK YOU!
