It gives me great pleasure to announce that Megan Tipton, current Title I Math Coach at Forest Edge has been selected as the new Assistant Principal of Forest Edge Elementary School. |
Ms. Tipton is a dedicated member of our school community; she has experience teaching both Advanced Academics Level IV and inclusion general education classes at Forest Edge before transitioning to the role of Math Coach. As a Math Coach at Forest Edge, Ms. Tipton created and implemented a school-wide system for assessing mathematics skills, in alignment with Advantage Math Recovery, which lead to 85% of students showing growth within the number and operations reporting categories. Over the last three years, Ms. Tipton led
school wide professional development around number sense routines and the implementation of the workshop model, which lead to an increase in overall SOL pass rates from 75% to 82% and a close of student achievement gaps in all subcategories. As a result, Forest Edge received a honor from the FCPS School Board for closing gaps for students. Ms. Tipton takes a whole learner and inquiry approach with students and staff to promote growth and critical thinking.
Additionally, Ms. Tipton has served as our Science Lead at Forest Edge for several years collaborating with multiple teams, and our regional office for school support to elevate our instructional program to include hands on learning in science. She has led our teams in integrating Micro-Bits, and programming into our curriculum. Ms. Tipton has led professional development for teachers to integrate active, hands-on science experiences and supported Fairfax County in developing curriculum for Math and Science.
Ms. Tipton has over 10 years of experience and is dedicated to serving Title I schools and diverse students. Ms. Tipton began her career at Bettie F. Williams Elementary School in Virginia Beach, where she was instrumental in supporting the school in accreditation. Ms. Tipton is an avid supporter for teachers, she has mentored many first-year teachers supporting with social emotional support and responsive classroom. Ms. Tipton is passionate about school-home connections, she has led several well attended community events including, our famous Math Night and ST Math Madness which was exciting and loved by students. Ms. Tipton is caring, collaborative and dedicated to serving all students through family engagement, supporting teachers, and truly seeing the best in all our students and families.
Ms. Tipton would describe herself as an “influencer” – influencing students, families and teachers through coaching and support. As a leader she is proactive, communicative and strategic. Ms. Tipton has been the administrator for Summer School at Forest Edge and Freedom Hill Elementary, leading initiatives to building and maintaining student learning in Math & Literacy. Ms. Tipton believes in relationships, starting everyday new with students and staff and the importance of student voice in instruction which has supported multiple schools.
Ms. Tipton received her Bachelor of Science and Elementary Education at Longwood University in Virginia, her master’s in educational leadership from George Mason University and was selected to join the prestigious cohort in FCPS for Administration and Supervision.
