Students enjoyed their first week of our Summer Learning program!
Bucknell families,
We hope that you're enjoying the summer months and taking time to get outside, connect with those you love the most, and spend precious family time with your children. We miss them so much and can't wait for everyone to return in August.
This week our Summer Learning program started! It was great to have students back in the building and to see their joy for learning. Students engaged in reading and math workshop, STEAM activities, discovery rotations, and many other fun learning opportunities. More than anything, they were able to connect with one another and their teachers. The joy on their faces made us all smile!
Please make sure to read the updates in this newsletter. We have many important announcements and will use this platform to ensure that families get the information. Our office is open daily from 9:00am - 1:00pm. Please feel free to stop by if you need anything or have any questions! Pay close attention to...

Kindergarten 1:1 Meetings in July
As we begin to think about next school year, we are hoping to learn more about our incoming Kindergarteners’ strengths and areas of need. We are encouraging families to sign up for a 30 minute block of time for us to meet with your child and complete a few educational activities. This data will support our building in meeting the needs of each student.
Students who are attending Bridge to K do not need to sign up for a time because we will meet with them while they're in the building. If your child is not attending Bridge to K, please use this link to sign up for a time to meet with one of our Instructional Coaches at Bucknell Elementary School.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Ms. Demers at acdemers@fcps.edu
Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year.
Interested families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application ten days prior to the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.
Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes. Schools also benefit from funding opportunities based on Free and Reduced Price Meal application numbers.
Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online. If you have questions or need assistance with the Free and Reduced-Price Meals application, please contact Marian Miller at 703-660-2900.

As we begin to look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, I encourage everyone to Be Wise, Immunize! Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.
I encourage you to check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.
Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations and bring that to Bucknell Elementary School as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us at 703-660-2900.
