Franklin MS Summer Updates - July 22

Franklin Families and Students,

Good Afternoon. We hope that all of you had a great week!

Please review the information below for several important updates from our school and from FCPS. During the next month, we will be providing regular updates that will help our Franklin students and families prepare for the upcoming school year. You are always welcome to contact our main office if there is anything we can do to support your student or your family.

Here are a few Save the Dates for the summer and the upcoming school year:

  • The Franklin MS Summer Jumpstart Program will take place from August 2-5. Please see the information below for more details.
  • We will host a virtual Parent and Family Information Session via Zoom at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 9. A link for the event will be sent out in August and the session will be recorded if you are unable to join us that evening.
  • All students and families are welcome to visit our school building for a Self-Guided Open House on Thursday, August 11 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. There will be not be a formal presentation and our teachers will not be present during this event. It is simply an opportunity for students and families to visit our building, to become familiar with your new school, and to meet the Administrative and Student Services Teams.
  • Student schedules will be available in SIS StudentVue/ParentVue on the morning of August 18.
  • We will host a Franklin Welcome Celebration on the afternoon of August 18 from 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM for students and families. This will be a fun event where students will have the opportunity to visit all of their classrooms and meet their new teachers.
  • The First Day of School is on August 22!
  • Our Back to School Night will be virtual this year and it will occur on Wednesday, September 7 at 6:00 PM.
  • Our school will be participating in the Asha-Jyothi 5k at Fairfax Corner on September 18.

Best wishes for a safe, relaxing and enjoyable finish to your summer.  We will see you in August!

Immunization Reminders

As we begin to look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, we encourage everyone to Be Wise, Immunize! Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.

Please check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.

More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.

Mental Wellness Consultations

This summer, the FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will offer virtual Mental Wellness Consultations from June 21, 2022 through August 5, 2022. Parents and students will have an opportunity to schedule a 45-minute consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker by phone or videoconference. Consultations will be offered in two ways:

  1. Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social, emotional, behavioral, and academic success.  Information about community resources will also be provided.
  2. Directly to students in middle or high school. This consultation provides an opportunity for middle and high school students to receive guidance and support for concerns related to anxiety, mood, behavior, peer or family interactions, or school transitions and changes. Strategies and tools can also be provided to address academic challenges such as organization and time-management.

All parents and secondary students are encouraged to take advantage of this service by clicking here to request a consultation. You may also leave us a message at 703-503-2520.
