Terra Centre Families,
We hope everyone is enjoying their summer and no one is paying too much attention to the back to school displays that are starting to appear in stores!
As you continue to plan for the summer, we wanted to provide you with our upcoming dates for back to school events! We have three events that will take place in August:
- Our New Family Orientation will be for families that have registered since the end of June and have not had the opportunity to tour the building. This event will be held on Tuesday, August 9th from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm and we will send our new families an invitation in the coming weeks to register.
- Our Virtual Back to School Night will be held for parents/guardians of PreK-6th grade students on Thursday, August 18th with two sessions. The first session will be from 5:00 pm-5:30 pm and the second session, which is a repeat of the first session, will be from 5:45 pm-6:15 pm.
- Our Back to School Fair will be held for families of PreK-6th grade students on Friday, August 19th with three sessions. These sessions provide an opportunity for families to meet classroom teachers and specialists, drop off school supplies and medications, purchase spirit wear from the PTA, and reconnect with old friends and familiar faces!

Summer Office Hours
Terra Centre welcomes families to contact the office as needed this summer. We have limited staff in the office and will have reduced hours. The Terra Centre office will be open from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM every Monday - Friday. We will also respond to phone messages as they are received. You can contact the front office at 703-249-1400.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications/ Summer Meals
Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.
You are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.
Summer Resources
We would like to share some resources to help students and families have a fun, safe, and healthy summer! The FCPS Summer Resources webpage will be updated throughout the summer months.
Summer Meal Kits
Summer meal kits will be offered on Tuesdays at several sites through August 9. Meal kits contain seven days of breakfast and lunch items packed in bulk. All meals are available at no-cost to FCPS students and children 18 years of age and under. Visit our Meals for Students website for more details on pick up locations and times.
Enjoy Our School Grounds This Summer
Our preschool playground is designed for children ages 2-5. It is open to the community when not in use by students in our summer programs. Please take care to leave the playground as you found it. The ground cover was refurbished this year, and we are working hard to keep it in good shape for our students. Pets are not allowed on school grounds.
The K-6 Terra Centre playground is currently closed for an upgrade, please keep the following in mind when using these facilities when they reopen:
- Use is allowed from dawn to dusk, except during school hours or when being used for school activities or other scheduled programs.
- Facilities must be shared with anyone else who wishes to use them.
- Please leave the facilities as you found them. Remove any waste or debris from the property.
Visit our availability webpage for more information on the usage of school grounds and facilities. Community users are prohibited from having the following activities in Fairfax County Public Schools including in school buildings, on playgrounds, and on fields:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Animals. Service animals are allowed. However, the user shall clean up any school grounds used by service animals participating in scheduled events.
- Car wash
- Drones
- Fireworks and sparklers (except by Local Government)
- Gas or charcoal grills
- Illegal drugs
- Moon bounces
- Paintball
- Rocket launch
- Tobacco products or smoking devices

Summer Tutoring
Terra Centre students will continue to have unlimited access to 24/7, on-demand, online tutoring support services through Tutor.com this summer. Students are able to use Tutor.com to review and/or practice in subject areas of interest or need. Students may also choose to access other tools such as practice quizzes in a variety of subject areas, as well as self-paced study courses for SAT and ACT preparation.
Details about how students can access Tutor.com through archived courses in Schoology are provided in Summer Access at Tutor.com - Online Tutoring Services. Students enrolled in summer Credit Recovery Academy, Online Campus, Online Economics and Personal Finance, and TJHSST summer courses will be able to access Tutor.com via their active summer course in Schoology.

Immunization Reminder
All students are required to be immunized against certain communicable diseases to attend school in the state of Virginia. It is important for all students to receive the required immunizations.
Please talk with your family health care provider about whether or not your children are up to date on their vaccines before the new school year begins. Submit updated immunization records to your school as soon as possible.
