Will Mahoney - Soccer
He was the heart of a Highlanders team that came together in the postseason, piecing together a surprising run to the state semifinals. Mahoney will play at Binghamton.

Thais Rolly - Track
Thias finished first in the 1,600-meter race in 4:54.92, at the Virginia High School League’s Class 6 girls and boys outdoor state championship meets. She also finished second in the 3,200 (10:30.65)..

Griffin Stieg - Baseball
An elite athlete and Virginia Tech commit, Stieg was dominant on the mound for the Highlanders with a 9-1 record, a 0.90 ERA and 93 strikeouts. As a leadoff man, he hit four home runs and batted .368 with 20 walks in 68 plate appearances.

School Traffic Pattern - June 20 through mid-August
Starting June 20, cars will not be able to cut through the school from Sea Cliff/Davidson to Westmoreland and vice versa. If you are trying to park for the stadium or main gym, you should come through on the Westmoreland side. If you are coming to the main office you will only be able to enter through the Sea Cliff/Davidson side. This is due to a roofing project that will run through mid-August.
Meningococcal Vaccine Reminder - Class of 2023
The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into one of its schools. All students in grade 12 are required to have been immunized with one dose of the Meningococcal Vaccine given at the age of 16 or older. Please read this information for submitting records to McLean. Proof of immunization must be submitted to the school. These documents need to be returned prior to the start of the 2022-23 school year, preferably by July 1. Summer Workshops
This summer, McLean will host two summer workshops for interested students. Workshops will be conducted either in-person or via Zoom. Interested students should register for the workshop(s) they plan to attend using this Google Form by June 15th. See details below for more information about offerings. Links for the virtual workshop will be sent to registrants prior to the first offering.
Narrative Writing in the College Essay
Teachers will facilitate students in drafting an essay they could use as a basis for their college application process. This workshop is geared toward rising seniors only and will be conducted in-person.
We Don’t Talk About Braco
Participants will watch a 20 minute scene from the Disney telenovela series "Violetta" on you tube. Students will then discuss the show in Spanish virtually and do follow up activities with the teacher. This workshop is for students entering Spanish 3, 4, or AP.
Summer College Application Workshop
Student Services is planning for our annual summer College Application Workshop! This summer workshop is for college-bound seniors to learn about the Common/Coalition Applications, how to write strong college essays, interview tips, and more! Guest speakers from reputable college admission committees will be in attendance to provide valuable college advice while also demystifying the application process. Since beginning our workshops, colleges have noted improved applications from McLean students. We are firm believers that the process can be far less stressful if students begin working on their applications before senior year begins.
College Applications Workshop (for Seniors only - Class of 2023):
- Student Services will be holding a Summer College Application Workshop on August 2nd and 3rd! Students who would like to participate must complete a registration form, which will be sent to student emails on Monday, June 6th. Space will be limited, so sign up early! Students will choose between either an AM (8:30am-12:00pm) or PM (12:30pm-4:00pm) session. There will be a fee of $70 collected between July 1 and August 1. Students who register will receive more information on how to pay this fee at a later date.

Haven’t had a chance to take a standardized test (SAT or ACT) yet, or not thrilled about your score? No problem! SOL Spring Score Preview
If your student took SOL tests this spring, you can view their scores in SIS ParentVUE. Use a web browser to log into your SIS ParentVUE account: https://sisparent.fcps.edu. You will find spring SOL test performance levels and overall scores in the Test History section. You will also get an official score report in ParentVUE Documents by the end of July. Weekly Reminders
Tutor.com - Summer Access
Students can access Tutor.com over the summer months by logging into Schoology through a course. However, after mid-June, when a student clicks on courses, the courses from the 2021-22 SY will no longer show up since they will be archived in transition to the new school year. Therefore, students must follow the instructions below to access Tutor.com from an archived course during the summer months.

New FCPS Student - Newly enrolled students will be able to access Tutor.com through Schoology by August 18.

Seniors - July 29 will be the last date graduated seniors will be able to access the network.
Summer School - Students attending summer Credit Recovery Academy (CRA), Online Campus (OC) or Online Economics & Personal Finance (EPF) can access Tutor.com through their active summer course in Schoology.

Summer Learning Opportunities
Freshman 101
Who: Rising 9th grade students coming to McLean High School during the 2022-2023 academic year
Dates: Monday, July 18, 2022 - Tuesday, July 19, 2022
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Location: McLean High School
McLean High School teachers and administrators will offer a variety of in-person activities for students to choose from as they prepare to begin high school at McLean. Students will get to know staff members, connect with other students, and attend sessions designed to prepare them for success as they transition to high school.
Please note: Only students enrolled as 9th graders at McLean High School for the 2022-2023 school year are eligible for the MHS Freshman 101 Program. Please complete the electronic form to reserve a spot. Please complete the Emergency Care Form and email it to mcleanhighschool@fcps.edu by July 11 to complete your registration; Emergency Care Forms are located on the MHS website.
AP Bootcamp
Boot Camp is an interactive leadership conference where students discuss and practice the qualities required for success in college and in the corporate world. This program is targeted for students who are taking their first AP class.
This event will focus on developing five attributes: Teamwork, Communication, Organization, Reading, and Problem Solving (T-CORPS). These skills are those that are most desired by Fortune 500 firms. This hands-on program will actively engage students in the development and use of these skills, while demonstrating their importance.
To go with the military boot camp theme, students will divide into platoons and compete in tasks that will allow them to build and demonstrate these skills. After each task, students will reflect upon their performance and discuss how they can improve.
Boot Camp has four goals:
- Introduce students to the unique academic challenges of AP coursework.
- Guide students in skill development with focus on teamwork, communication, organization, reading, and problem solving.
- Discuss the practical application of these skills inside and outside the classroom.
- Provide opportunities for students to develop a support network with their peers.
Boot Camp will be held Monday, July 18th through Wednesday July 20, 2022 from 9 am – 12 pm. It is recommended students participate in all 3 days.
Recruits will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. There are 80 available slots for this year’s boot camp. Registration must be received by July 1, 2022.
