Congratulations to our 8th grade students! We are so proud of your hard work over the last 2 years. Pictured above, students enjoy a game during the 8th grade celebration on Friday, June 3!

Dear Irving Families!

Thank you for all of your support throughout this school year. It has definitely been a year to remember. I am proud of our students and the growth they have shown academically and in so many of the activities they are involved in.

As I reflect on this school year, I think about just how far we have come - the changes our students have gone through and the outstanding support of our West Springfield community. We have been able to enjoy music and theater performances, fun activities sponsored by our PTA (in person!), and presentations of learning about students’ growth in the Portrait of a Graduate skills.

Throughout the last two years, I have been amazed time and time again by the kindness and selfless acts for others by our community- this was most evident as we celebrated with Food for Neighbors and the collection of over 70,000 pounds of food being donated since we began in 2018. This accomplishment and countless others are due to you, our Irving Families and we are so grateful!

For our 8th grade families, we wish you all the best in high school. To our 7th grade families, we look forward to seeing you back at Irving on Monday, August 22. Lastly, don’t forget to look below to see our summer READ BINGO board below- I cannot wait to hear about all the great books our students and staff read over the summer.

I wish everyone a restful and relaxing summer.

Library News

We have gotten the majority of books back, but still have many to collect.  All library materials need to be returned asap.   If the book has been lost, come and talk to Ms. Monk or Mrs. Gawalt in the library before school is out.

Irving’s SUMMER READ! Program is back!!!   Rising 7th graders and rising 8th grade students have the opportunity to participate in our SUMMER READ! Program this year.  Students pick books of their choice that meet the requirements of our reading “Bingo” card, and report via Google Form when they’ve finished reading each one.  For each book completed, students earn 1 ticket that is put into a raffle and earn 1 point for their school team for the 2022-2023 school year.  Students may earn up to 24 tickets.  Four student winners will be drawn from the tickets that are earned throughout the summer.  The prizes are $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards!

All students can open the SUMMER READ! bingo card through their FCPS Google account.  The Google form to fill out after students have read books is also available online at: https://bit.ly/WIMSSUMREAD2022
