Weekly Message

summer

Today we close out another unique school year. Together we made the best of this challenging year. Parents, thank you for partnering with us to help our children through frustrations with re-learning school.  Thank you for supporting outdoor lunches! Thank you enduring the endless daily COVID counts. We certainly could not have survived this year without your support!  We are looking forward to the 2022-2023 school year with the hopes that it will be more "typical" and we are so fortunate to have you all as a part of our community!

We wish you all the most amazing summer ever!

We would like to thank our outgoing PTA Board:

President: Christine Lancman

VP, Programs: Joy Park Lee

VP, Communications: Delphine Woltz

VP, Fundraising: Jen Maki Dodge

VP, Membership:  Meredith Campbell

VP, Volunteer Resources: Paula Currall

Recording Secretary: Erin Gallagher

Treasurer: Karen Rose

We appreciate their dedication and the numerous hours they have so graciously volunteered to make Oakton the best school it can be. We continue to be grateful to all who support our school and the many opportunities that are afforded to our students by our volunteers.

Best wishes to all of our students and their families who are leaving Oakton.  we will miss each and every one of you!

farewell

A Fond Farewell...

The end of the year inevitably brings changes to our staff and we must say goodbye to some people who have made a significant impact on our school.  We are sad to see them go and wish them the very best in their endeavors.

Jane Brill, 2nd grade teacher, is retiring and looking forward to traveling and spending time with her family.

Maureen Buchino, Math Specialist, is excited to try a career outside of education.

Karen Lopez, Office Staff, is moving to a school closer to home.

Herlinda Garcia Lemus, Special Education IA, is moving to a school closer to home.

Julia Shin, Special Education IA, is returning to school.

Nicole Walker, Special Education teacher, is moving to a school closer to home.

Janice Wan, 3rd Grade AAP teacher, is looking forward to new experiences outside of teaching.

We also want to extend our gratitude to three special people who were an integral part of the Oakton family this school year:  Liz Earls, Alex Robinson, and Brian Solomita.  We could not have done it without you!

breakfast

Thank you!

We have been spoiled by our parents!  Thank you to The Buckley's and The Woldow's for providing breakfast on two mornings!

free reduced lunch

For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-23 school year.

Eligible families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.

Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes.

SOL Reports

If your child took SOL tests this spring, you can view their scores in SIS ParentVUE beginning June 8. Use a web browser to log into your SIS ParentVUE account: https://sisparent.fcps.edu. You will find spring SOL test performance levels and overall scores in the Test History section. You will also get an official score report in ParentVUE Documents by the end of July.
