CES Summer Update 6.2022

Principal's Message

We hope that summer is settling in and fun plans are on the agenda for our Chesterbrook Chipmunks, families and our staff. We will miss our staff and families that are moving on and wish you all the very best. It's been a pleasure to support your children during this school year. While I'm getting a lot accomplished and was easily able to take some time last week to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation, the school is too quiet. Sharing my family photo with you as I'm a proud mom of a University of Tennessee bound young adult. Hard to believe how quickly these school years pass.

The planning for the new school year started way back in late winter and we are excited to begin renewed and refreshed in August. It's been great to meet many new families that will be starting at Chesterbrook in August.

Wishing you a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Pat Pence

Congratulations Pat Pence, Administrative Assistant

This summer, Mrs. Pence will be retiring from FCPS. Pat has been an incredible support to our staff, students and families over her eight years at Chesterbrook. The care and concern she has put in to making sure our staff have what they need and taking any little task she can off their plate, allowed our teachers to focus on their students.  Her dedication is going to be hard to match and certainly her smile, kindness and warm heart will be deeply missed.

We wish Pat a retirement filled with amazing travels, more time with her family, long walks with her dog Izzy and much joy.  She has earned it and will truly be missed.

Summer Office Hours - Summer Registration Note

Chesterbrook office will be open with limited hours (10-1) this summer and by appointment. Our school building is closed to programs this summer, so appointments will be needed as we help support you with limited staff.

This summer our wonderful Administrative Assistance, Pat Pence, will be retiring as of July 1st. Chesterbrook will also be closed while the building is under renovation for HVAC. Please reach out to Mrs. Kirkpatrick if you need to make an appointment or call our main line at 703-714-8200 and leave us a detailed message.

We encourage any families that need to register students for the 2022-23 school year to reach out to Mr. Troskey ASAP to set up a registration plan and time to bring in paperwork.

Private Summer Tutoring with Chesterbrook Staff

We are often asked if staff are available to tutor over the summer or during the school year. We have compiled this list of CES staff that are available this summer to support the summer bridge as private tutors.

FCPS also provides free online tutoring services over the summer

FCPS students will continue to have unlimited access to 24/7, on-demand, online tutoring support services through Tutor.com this summer. Students are able to use Tutor.com to review and/or practice in subject areas of interest or need. Students may also choose to access other tools such as practice quizzes in a variety of subject areas, as well as self-paced study courses for SAT and ACT preparation.

Details about how students can access Tutor.com through archived courses in Schoology are provided in Summer Access at Tutor.com - Online Tutoring Services. Secondary students enrolled in summer Credit Recovery Academy, Online Campus, Online Economics and Personal Finance, and TJHSST summer courses will be able to access Tutor.com via their active summer course in Schoology.

Order School Supplies

During open house in August, the halls are lined with an organized box of your child's ordered school supplies. You arrive, it's all already here and you are set to begin the year. What could be easier? ORDER Deadline end of June!

Go to https://sproutsupplies.com and use the school code CES005 to order.

If you choose to purchase your own supplies, please visit https://www.chesterbrookpta.org/supplies for teacher selected lists by grade.  Please note, if you choose not to purchase the complete kit, there are specific items for grades 2-6 that are school specific that should be purchased and will be delivered directly to your child at school.

2022-23 5th & 6th Grade Student Ambassadors

We are beginning to seek out our 5th and 6th grade student ambassadors for the new school year.  Interested students will be asked to sign up in August so we can begin planning for our activities throughout the school year.

If students know that they would like to serve Chesterbrook in a leadership position during their 5th or 6th grade year, they may also sign up now. There may be early opportunities to help with projects as we get the year up and running in August.

APPLY HERE!  Parents, please share this form with your student so they can complete the sign up if they are interested.  We will also remind our families in August of these opportunities.

Family Resource Center and Language Support

If you speak another language or need support through our Family Parent Resource Center, please use this contact list. Phone lines are available in eight different languages including Amharic, Chinese, Korean, Urdu, Arabic, Farsi, Spanish and Vietnamese.
