Principals' Message
Dear TLES Families,
It's been rather quiet in our halls today! We already miss our tigers! This year was without a doubt the most challenging year in education yet. We began this school year focusing our time and attention on student safety before anything else. Mask-wearing, social distancing, contact tracing, isolation, quarantine, COVID notifications were formidable items driving our every minute of our every school days and weekends.
Students returned to the building after being out of school for quite some time, and we were tasked with the urgency of providing students with safety, security, acceptance, care, love, instruction, social-emotional support, reassurance, consistency - - now more than ever. And our staff delivered.
This year we saw incredible student growth through academics and social-emotional measures. We also eventually had the opportunity to see smiles again, and the other half of our students' faces. :) Those smiles, smiles, smiles were another assessment that what our staff was doing collectively, was working!
When a team works together to provide students a place they can depend on daily to experience that sense of calm, sense of belonging, motivation, and relentless love, students will thrive and love their school. Timber Lane students love their school because of this staff of 117 professionals who come together to provide the greatest caring culture possible.
We would like to thank all of our families for partnering with us to support those individuals we care for and admire most (our students). Thank you, families for trusting in our teachers, for showing your gratitude, and always reaching out to ask what we needed. There's no better way for a community to support children than how we did it together! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Ben Chiet, Shele Banford & Tracey Brown Rice
Well Wishes to Departing Staff Members
We would like to take this opportunity to wish our cherished staff members the very best in their future endeavors. For those who have been been a part of our community for multiple years, we have one retirement, intra-state moves, changes in positions, promotions, and some folks pursuing opportunities outside of education.
Retirements: Linda Robinson
Leaving Education: Sara Na, Nikki Hunjan, Teresa Talebian, Julia Fraser
Promotions: Lindsay DePeralta
New Positions/Moves: Alison Feeney, Jen Gilster, Amanda McAdams, Julia Howard, Chloe Yazdani
These folks have left an imprint on our hearts and certainly on the hearts and minds of many of our students. It's safe to say that they each left a legacy at TLES and our community has benefitted greatly from all that they have contributed for our students and to this school. Thank you all!
Field Day Success!
A huge thank you to our PE teachers Ms. Rieger and Ms. Jakubek for planning an amazing field day. Special shoutout to our parent volunteers who helped make the day a great success! From the dunk tank to the parachutes, to the relay races and more... We can't wait for field day 2023!

Medication Reminders
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than June 13, 2022. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school.
Questions may be directed to our School Health Aide, Mrs. Carlson.
 TLES Families,
Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.
I encourage you to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.
No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.
If you have questions about the Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, the additional benefits your child may receive, or no-cost summer meals, please contact Margarita Baptiste. We are happy to help.
Thank you,
Ben Chiet
Family Return to School Survey
TLES Families,
We are interested in hearing about how the 2021-22 school year has gone for students. You have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which you should have received via email.
The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division.
We encourage all TLES parents/caregivers to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.
Thank you,
Ben Chiet
