Mantua Elementary Weekly Newsletter

Message from Ms. Shannon

Good Evening Mantua Families,

We have an exciting last few days left of school in the 2022-23 school year. Team events and celebrations can be seen throughout the building.  These activities bring our community even closer together and allow students and staff the opportunity to reflect on the relationships built and learning that took place during this exceptional year.  We are looking forward to the 6th-grade promotion ceremony on Thursday and closing out the school year as one big Mantua family!

This newsletter is full of important information.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Thank you,

Linda Shannon, Principal

Message From the Garden Club

As the last day of school approaches things are also beginning to wind down in the Mantua gardens for the year. The work kicked off in November with the Discovery Garden Clean-Up and got the garden prepared for its upcoming winter break. The central Courtyard got a major pruning in early spring after almost two years without a visitor and the entrance containers welcomed everyone back with a fresh look after Spring Break. A number of beautiful new trees were planted on the school grounds with the help of our students and will, hopefully, be providing wonderful shade in the years to come. In late April, the committee held its second garden clean-up to weed and tame some of our native plantings. One of the biggest efforts of the day involved reclaiming the dormant quad beds and beginning the transformation to our new, interactive ‘Learning Garden’ which will debut next fall. The year wrapped up with a Daisy Troop planting project out on Kirkwood and they did a beautiful job making the sign shine.

Many, many thanks to the parent and student volunteers who joined in the gardening work this year. Without their help, it would be difficult to keep these spaces in tip-top shape for all to enjoy. If you missed a chance to pitch in, never fear. Over the summer, there will be opportunities to assist, and the Garden Committee is always seeking new volunteers, with or without a green thumb. If you are interested in helping or just learning more about the different gardens around the school, please contact Garden Committee Chair Karin Hudson at garden@mantuapta.org.

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school.  Medications left in the health room after that time will be discarded.  It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
