Families Needed to Host French High School Students from July 6 to 29!

Compass USA

Give the experience of an American summer to a French teen by becoming a host with Compass USA!. Host families are urgently needed. Fifteen French high school students dream of coming to Washington, D.C. and hope to discover the American way of life, integrate into the community, meet new friends and improve their English. They will arrive at Dulles International Airport on July 6 for this three-week program.

As a host family, all you need is a spare bed, to provide three meals a day, and a willingness to welcome a student into the normal rhythm and activities of your home. Compass USA will provide sightseeing trips on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the French students and any interested host siblings. If your family has planned a vacation for July, your student can travel with you.

Visit https://www.compass-usa.net for more information about the summer homestay program and hosting. If you are interested in hosting one of these students, please contact WTW parent, Kathleen DeCarlo, at kdecarlo@verizon.net or 703-388-6525.

Current 10th Grade Parents & Guardians - ACTION REQUIRED IN NAVIANCE

Action Required

Each year, your child develops an Academic and Career Plan that supports their  growth. This plan helps your child plan for their future.

Your child will work with teachers and school counselors to discover their personal strengths and interests. They will also create goals to help them achieve success, plan  for courses that meet high school graduation requirements, and prepare for life after  high school. The development of this plan starts in middle school. Students update it during high school as their goals evolve.

This plan connects to the Fairfax County Public Schools’ Strategic Plan. It supports the  growth of Portrait of a Graduate attributes and is required by the Virginia Department of  Education. Each student’s parent or guardian must review this plan at the end of 8th  grade and again at the end of 10th grade. Then you can coach them to make decisions  about college and careers that match their personal strengths, interests, and goals.  There are many pathways to success!

You or your child can log into Naviance Student at www.fcps.edu/Naviance, then review the following information together:

  • Results of the strengths and career surveys
  • Personal, academic, and/or career goals
  • Resume
  • Draft course plans for high school

Once in your child’s account, click the “About Me” tab and scroll down to “Portfolio.”  Once you click on the Portfolio, you can view all the work that your child has completed.

Once you have reviewed your child’s plan, complete the verification form at  https://forms.gle/jifN6F3DE9kiNUuX7 . The completion of this form will serve as your signature. Please complete this form by Thursday, June 30, 2022.

For more information about your child’s plans, visit www.FCPS.edu and search  “Academic and Career Plan.” We encourage you to continue to use Naviance Student  with your child to explore college and career options.

If you have questions, please contact your student’s school counselor.

Underclass Students - Will You Be Returning to Woodson Next Year?

If you will not be attending Woodson HS this fall, please let Woodson Student Services know now. Please click here and fill out this form. This form was also mailed home with course requests for next year.

If your student intends to attend Woodson next year, there is no need to complete or return the form.

Student Services will make sure all transcripts and records are forwarded to your child’s new school so his/her file is complete.  If you have any questions, please contact Woodson registrar Casey Delaney at 703-503-4622 or cdelaney@fcps.edu.

Students are able to use Tutor.com to review and/or practice in subject areas of interest or need. Students may also choose to access other tools such as practice quizzes in a variety of subject areas, as well as self-paced study courses for SAT and ACT preparation.

Details about how students can access Tutor.com through archived courses in Schoology are provided in Summer Access at Tutor.com - Online Tutoring Services. Students enrolled in summer Credit Recovery Academy, Online Campus, Online Economics and Personal Finance, and TJHSST summer courses will be able to access Tutor.com via their active summer course in Schoology.

In-person Tutoring Options

For families interested in in-person tutoring, FCPS’ Parent Resource Center maintains a list of tutors who can be hired by families.

The tutor list contains the names of current FCPS employees who hold a valid and current teaching license in Virginia. These employees have contacted the Parent Resource Center to offer their services. The tutor list is updated monthly during the school year.

For a list of tutors, please email The Parent Resource Center (prc@fcps.edu).

This list is a resource offered by the PRC, but parents are responsible for contacting and working directly with the tutors.

FCPS Return to School Survey

FCPS Survey

Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Office of Research and Strategic Improvement (ORSI) is seeking to understand your and your child’s experiences this school year as students returned to five days of in-person learning. Your voice is critical to understanding the successes and challenges of teaching and learning this year. The information you and other families provide will be used along with other data to inform the Fairfax County School Board, Superintendent, and Leadership Team about the Division’s return to five days a week of in-person instruction and learning and support FCPS’ efforts to continually improve.

Responses to this survey are anonymous. You should be able to answer the survey in about 15 minutes. If you have more than one child enrolled in FCPS, you may complete the survey once for each child or you may complete it one time for the child whose teaching and learning you wish to provide feedback on the most.

FCPS Families Will Receive Reports Throughout the Summer for Spring Assessments

Spring assessments help teachers and schools check on students’ learning and skill development. Families will access results from end-of-year assessments in different ways. For most assessments, FCPS provides custom reports to share scores with families.

Look in SIS ParentVUE for these reports by the end of July:

Watch the mail for these reports by the end of the indicated month:

Other scores come from the school or testing organization. These include Advanced Placement (AP) scores accessed through students’ College Board accounts.

Go online or contact your student's school for additional information about FCPS assessments. You can also learn how to activate a SIS ParentVUE account to access scores. Schools will mail SIS reports to families without ParentVUE accounts.

Sing, Dance, and Design With FCPS Summer Programs

Regulation of Religious and Cultural Observance Days Revised for FCPS 2022-23 School Year

In response to a request from the School Board, FCPS has updated its regulation related to religious and cultural observance days (“O” Days). Changes to the regulation include:

  • New material can be introduced on religious and cultural observance days provided that the content is made accessible in Schoology and teachers support absent students.
  • Graded assignments or activities may occur as long as there are opportunities for students absent because of a religious and cultural observance to make up the assignment or activity.
  • Details are provided for days on which an observance begins at sundown (1/2 O Day).

The regulation was drafted with input from principals who were charged with making recommendations to prioritize instruction while honoring religious and cultural observances.
