Summer Reading Bingo

What’s on your bucket list?  Fill your summer bucket with some books! Students in grades K-5 will be coming home with Summer Reading Bingo Boards. We encourage you to also participate in the Summer Reading program at the Fairfax County Public Library (any books you read count for BOTH programs!)

Bingo boards are due on Thursday, August 26, 2022 to Mrs. Dunbar in the library.  When filling out the form, students will circle the grade level for NEXT SCHOOL YEAR and their NEW teacher’s name.  Parents will also need to sign the Bingo board before returning it.  Please see attached copy of the Bingo board. Have a wonderful summer filling your bucket!

Summer Reading at the LCES Library!

In an effort support our students’ summer reading, we are excited to announce that our librarian, Mrs. Dunbar, and some LCES staff will be opening the library to our community on Tuesdays during the month of July (July 5th, July 12th, July 19th, & July 26th) from 4:30-6:00 PM. This will be an opportunity for LCES students and their families to checkout library books from our LCES library. If you are around, please plan to stop by!

Students are able to use Tutor.com to review and/or practice in subject areas of interest or need. Students may also choose to access other tools such as practice quizzes in a variety of subject areas, as well as self-paced study courses for SAT and ACT preparation.

Details about how students can access Tutor.com through archived courses in Schoology are provided in Summer Access at Tutor.com - Online Tutoring Services. Students enrolled in summer Credit Recovery Academy, Online Campus, Online Economics and Personal Finance, and TJHSST summer courses will be able to access Tutor.com via their active summer course in Schoology.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Due This Summer

For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-23 school year.

Interested families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.

Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes.

Summer Meal Service

No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit our website for updated information during the summer.

School Supply Orders

The PTA is offering parents the convenient services of pre-packaged supply kits. This service by The Write Stuff ensures your child/children have the school supplies they need next year without you having to run to five different stores to find them. This year purchases will benefit the Lees Corner PTA.

Each kit contains exactly what is on your child’s supply list.

Supplies can be ordered using the link below

https://www.write-stuff.com/storefront/school/leescorner

NOTE: If you have trouble accessing or using the site, try using a different internet browser.  The site does not appear to work using Google Chrome or MS Edge but does work in Internet Explorer.  If you have any questions please contact the PTA.

Orders placed online by June 15, 2022 will be sent directly to Lees Corner. Orders can still be placed online until July 10, 2022 but will include a delivery fee and be sent to your home address.

If school supplies are ordered by June 15th and shipped to the school, the kits will be delivered directly to the students’ classroom.

If you have any questions, please contact Elaine Chen at elaine.y.chen@gmail.com
