Dear Wolftrap Families,
HAPPY LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL! I will be reaching out to you with ONE more end of year note on Friday, June 10th. This week, leading up to that day, Ms. O’Donovan and I will be enjoying classroom parties and the sixth-grade promotion ceremony. It will be a wonderful week!
CONGRATULATIONS! Laura May: This year we will be celebrating the retirement of a tremendous counselor and friend, who has made significant impacts in our school, Ms. Laura May. Ms. May has been serving as our counselor for the last 18 years! In these years she has nurtured our students and most of our adults, as well. The last two years have made very clear how important mental health is to our community. Ms. May has worked on the clinical team to help bring our students through this journey with COVID and many other lessons for wellbeing. Wolftrap will greatly miss Ms. May, and we wish her well as she starts the next chapter of her life. Her last day will be Thursday, June 9th, if you would like to wish her well.
2022-2023 SCHOOL MEALS: Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public-school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.
I encourage you to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year, if you desire. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online. No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.
If you have questions about the Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, the additional benefits your child may receive, or no-cost summer meals, please contact Wolftrap Elementary. We are happy to help.
SAFETY FOLLOW UP: On Friday, May 27th, we had a meeting organized by the PTA to discuss school safety, in wake of the tragic events in Texas. We gathered with Mr. Ed Haggerty, from the Office of Safety and Security, who spoke to the group about safety practices in FCPS. Thank you to our PTA for organizing this event. We want to assemble a summary of questions and answers for the community. We hope to publish that before school ends. If not, we will be sure to have that ready for the beginning of next year. We can also host another safety focused gathering before school starts to answer any questions.
YEARBOOKS: Yearbooks will be distributed to 6th grade on Monday, June 6 and to the rest of the school on June 7. We have a limited number of extra yearbooks for those who forgot to place their order earlier this year. Please sign up for one of the extra yearbooks on this Google form . Yearbooks are $20 each and can be paid for in cash or a check made out to Wolftrap Elementary. You will only be able to purchase a yearbook by completing the Google form.
LAPTOP COLLECTION HELP NEEDED: We are still in need of adults to help with checking in laptop this week and next. If you have an hour or 2 to spare, please sign up here:

LOST AND FOUND LAST CALL: Please stop by the school during this week to check the lost and found. Any items left after June 10 will be donated.
2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR DATES: Be sure to note that the first day of school for the 2022-2023 school year will be Monday, August 22nd. Wolftrap’s Open House will take place on Friday, August 19th. Teacher assignments will be visible the week before school begins in SIS Parent Account, so be sure you have an active account. Please call the office if you need assistance with this.
JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION: JUNE 19TH: Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that word of the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, effectively marking the end of slavery in the United States. Please join us in commemorating this important day.
Warmly,
Dr. Maggie Grove Principal
