Thank You…

Halley Field Day Fun #2 06.03.22

To all our family and parent volunteers!

Halley Field Day Fun #3 06.03.22

You made all the difference.

We appreciate you!

Student Laptop Collection

All Halley ES student laptops must be collected prior to the end of the school year.

We are collecting laptops on June 6th for 6th graders and June 8th for K – 6.

Students will also need to bring back their power cord and the computer sleeve/case if they were issued one.  The cost of a lost power cord replacement is $23.  Please expect to reimburse the school through My School Bucks rather than buy your own replacement for safety reasons.  You can access that resource at this link:

  https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain?requestAction=home.

Students attending FCPS Summer Programs also need to be sure their laptops are at school by June 1 so they can receive any necessary updates or replacements. They will be expected to return their laptops and power cords to Halley Elementary School when their program ends.

Email Jennifer Buchko JMBuchko@fcps.edu for any additional information or with questions.

Families Will Receive Reports Throughout the Summer for Spring Assessments

fyi Colorful Circles 06.03.22

Spring assessments help teachers and schools check on students’ learning and skill development. Families will access results from end-of-year assessments in different ways. For most assessments, FCPS provides custom reports to share scores with families.

Look in SIS ParentVUE for these reports by the end of July:

Watch the mail for these reports by the end of the indicated month:

Other scores come from the school or testing organization. These include Advanced Placement (AP) scores accessed through students’ College Board accounts.

Go online for additional information about FCPS assessments. You can also learn how to activate a SIS ParentVUE account to access scores.

FCPS' Family Return to School

Survey Is Coming Soon

Survey 06.03.22

FCPS is interested in hearing from parents/caregivers about how the 2021-22 school year has gone for students. You will have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which will open Tuesday, May 31. Parents and caregivers will receive an email with the survey link.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division.

We encourage all FCPS parents/caregivers to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.

7th Grade Immunizations Requirement Notice

Effective July 1, 2021 all students entering 7th grade will be required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), and Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY).

Seventh grade students cannot begin school in August without proper Tdap and Meningococcal documentation.

If you have not already provided us with proof of your child’s Tdap and MenACWY immunizations, please send them in ASAP.

Please email our Registrar, Nicole Kendall at nbkendall@fcps.edu  or call 703-551-5700.  Thank you!

FCPA Summer Camps

Fairfax County Park Authority offers many summer camp opportunities for children ages 3-17, including sports, chess, science, nature, technology, performing arts, swimming, adventure, cooking, and more!

Full-day and half-day programs are available, and extended care is available at some locations.

For more information, see the flyer here or see the camp guide here. To register, go to the FCPA website here.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals Application

Although this school year breakfast and lunch meals are free to all students, we encourage families who believe their children might qualify for free and reduced-priced meals to apply for this program. Qualifying for free and reduced-priced meals has many added benefits, beyond the free meals. For elementary students, these include:

  • Reduced or waived musical instrument rental fee
  • Information about holiday assistance
  • Information about non-FCPS scholarships, classes and other non-FCPS educational related services
  • Pupil placement fees

There are also many other benefits and fee waivers that apply to students in middle school and high school (see this earlier letter from Dr. Brabrand).

To apply for free and reduced-price meals, please go to this website.
