Principal's Message: 6/4/2022

Good Morning Parents and Families:

Well, we have reached the final week of the 2021-2022 school year. While this is such a busy time of year, there is so much to celebrate as our students have brought us so much joy and success. Please find the final week schedule below... we look forward to honoring and celebrating our students throughout the week.

An additional honoring and celebrating took place as our staff shared in a retirement celebration for three of our esteemed colleagues. We wish Rodney Glover (custodian), Mark Daugherty (Science teacher) and Terry Gregory (special education teacher) for their tireless dedication and commitment to our Stone community the last several years. They have left their mark on this school in more ways than one and on behalf of our community, I wish them all the best as they move into the next phase of their life.

I look forward to seeing you throughout the week. As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Meredith Norris
Principal

Portrait of a Panther
We have recognized and honored 264 students this year for their demonstration of Portrait of a Graduate (POG) skills in the hallways or in their classes. These 21st century skills (Communicator, Collaborator, Creative and Critical Thinker, Ethical and Global Citizen and Goal-Directed and Resilient Individual) empower students to be productive citizens of a global community and successful in the workforce of the future. We end our year with the final group of Stone’s Portrait of a Panther students. See this week’s winners in the link above.

Rising 7th Graders Visit Stone
Student Services hosted all of our Future Panthers this week for an orientation program overview, student panel and guided tour of Stone.  It was an action-packed morning with tremendous support from our Stone Leadership students who did a phenomenal job with this event!
Thank you to our Stone Leadership students and Mrs.Neun for your support with this program.  We enjoyed meeting all of our Future Panthers and look forward to seeing them again in August.  Check our website for upcoming dates for our Panther Jumpstart program and Open House information coming soon!  Contact TLBrumett@fcps.edu with questions.

Final Classroom Spotlight: ESOL Civics Showcase
Mr. Dickason's ESOL Civics class worked on a Showcase Project where they had an opportunity to research the culture, geography, and politics of countries all over the world. After creating a presentation about their chosen country, the students created educational activities to display their research and engage others in learning about the country. Read more about it in the link above and view some of these amazing student projects.

Final Spirit Week
It’s our final spirit week of the year! Check out the fun spirit days our Leadership students have planned for our last week of school in the link above.

SOL Score Reports
If your student took SOL tests this spring, you can view their scores in SIS ParentVUE on Wed. June 8. Use a web browser, not the app, log into your SIS ParentVUE account: https://sisparent.fcps.edu. You will find spring SOL test performance levels and overall scores in the Test History section. You will also get an official score report in ParentVUE Documents by the end of July. Don’t have a ParentVUE account? Create one today here.

Laptop Collection
This coming week begins our FCPSOn laptop collection. All students issued an FCPSOn laptop this school year are required to return it on June 8 or 9 during their Science class period so it can be refreshed for the 2022-23 school year. For more details and replacement information please visit the link above.

If your student will not be in school for their laptop collection date, they should return their laptop and charger to their SCIENCE TEACHER on their last day at Stone

PTSA

We are in urgent need of a PTSA president for the next school year. Without a president, the PTSA cannot function.

As explained in prior emails, being on the PTSA board in middle school is a lot less time commitment than in elementary school. The main role of the President is to run and organize PTSA member and board meetings, develop the calendar for the year, communicate with the Principal, and support the other board members in their responsibilities as needed.

If you or anyone you know might be interested in supporting the PTSA, students, and school by serving in this role, please email stonemspta@gmail.com. Thank you to Kelly Long for agreeing to step up for VP of Communications!
