Little Run News: 6/3/22

A Message from Ms. Yarn

Greetings, Little Run Families,

As my first week as principal of Little Run comes to a close, I want to thank everyone for this fantastic opportunity to serve the Little Run Community.   Little Run has an incredible reputation for its welcoming and caring school culture. A sense of community is vital to Little Run's success. I will strive to cultivate positive relationships amongst our staff, students, and families, as we work together to ensure the success of our students.

As I enter my 26th year as an educator, I have reflected on my extraordinary journey of professional learning experiences. I hope to share the joy of lifelong learning with the students and staff of Little Run as we engage in high levels of learning for all. I am an educator and a mom. My daughter, Laila, will be heading to high school in the fall. It is hard to believe that she will head to college in four short years. My hopes and dreams for my daughter are that her early learning experiences have prepared her for high school, college, and, someday, the world. I have the same desire for all the students at Little Run.

The Little Run staff is committed to ensuring academic excellence for our students. I am so grateful to have had some time to learn more about our beloved school before the summer begins. Although our doors will close, the planning for the 2022-2023 school year begins! I look forward to partnering with the Little Run teachers, staff, and community to meet the needs of every child every day!

I am excited to share that the first of many "Coffee with the Principal" opportunities will be Tuesday, June 7th, at 9 am. Please join me as I share more about myself and my hopes and dreams for Little Run.

My seamless transition to Little Run would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of Acting Principal Kelly Durso. Mrs. Durso joined the staff less than two months ago, and during that time, she was able to impact students, staff, and families positively. Mrs. Durso is a school leader willing to act on behalf of students and staff to yield the best outcome. Little Run is grateful for her support.

Warmest regards,

Christie Yarn

Principal

Bullying Prevention and Intervention

FCPS is deeply committed to creating a safe and positive school environment where all students can learn.  Through school-wide positive behavior approaches and participation in K-12 health and guidance lessons students are taught to behave respectfully and to resolve conflicts in positive ways.  A culture of acceptance and creation of safe opportunities to discuss concerns is actively developed through class meetings, interactions, and relationships with caring adults. For more information please visit here.

Health Room Medication

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school.  Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded.  It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Laptop Return

The year end collection of laptops and chargers is rapidly approaching.  On June 8th and 10th,  we will be collecting all student laptops and chargers (except students taking FCPS instructional programs over the summer).  If your student has misplaced their charger, please try to locate it. If you can’t find it or the charger is damaged, please follow the steps below to pay for the equipment PRIOR to June 8th . The replacement cost for a missing/damaged charger is $23.  The replacement cost for a missing/damaged laptop is $481. More details about the responsible use can be found here.
