Free and Reduced Meals Applications

Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.

I encourage you to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.

If you have questions about the Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, the additional benefits your child may receive, or no-cost summer meals, please contact Ingrid Hernandez at 7035032700. We are happy to help.

Family Return to School Survey

We are interested in hearing about how the 2021-22 school year has gone for students. You have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which you should have received via email.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division.

We encourage all families to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.

Summer Reading

Students who read during the summer will come back more prepared for a successful 2022-23 school year.

It’s so important for students to read over a long break, especially in the summer, so they can retain and build on their reading skills. The Fairfax County Public Libraries (FCPL) are a great source of free books to read and fun summer programs.

Remember, all FCPS students can borrow up to 3 books at a time from FCPL through the LEAP program (Library Equity Access Pass), even if they don’t have a library card. Libraries are open and available to all to use their books and resources in the library, even without a library card. The libraries will also be offering special free programs in their Summer Reading Adventure. Go to this link to see the list of the upcoming programs. Stop by the library for more information about the library and their summer programs.

For 5th graders going to Glasgow next year

Rising 6th graders who will be attending Glasgow next year are invited to participate in their library summer reading program.
